Its not real GPS.

What it does is wireless triangulation with cell towers to make a good guess (some people are reporting within 100 meters, which isn't exactly accurate compared to real GPS), and then it puts a marker on the google maps and moves it around.

I've got it - it uses a combination of cell towers and known wifi access points to figure out where you are. Here in the city, its been getting decent accuracy, on the order of 50 meters.

Not something I would rely on, but fun to play with.

Any wi-fi that is open, or you know the password to. Just like a laptop.

You can get it without a contract.
  1. Buy the phone @ apple.
  2. Activate at home using 999-99-9999 as your social
  3. You will fail credit check, and it will offer you a gophone (prepaid, no contract) plan

There ya go.

+1 Touch screen sucks.

I never had so many typos while trying to send a text, until I picked up an iPhone. No tactile feedback FTL!
