If you want some details, let me know
It's really too bad our Cell Phone services aren't setup like Europe to where you can select what phone you want, then select the carrier & plan. Sometimes conformity is a good thing.

Does anyone have an iPhone on T-Mobile's service? Is there any restrictions on the T-Mobile network that you normally wouldn't have on AT&Ts?

Is this still the case? Tired of my G1 and don't really feel like shelling out $530 (actually it'd be $1060 cause the gf wants one too) on Nexus One's so I've been thinking about getting an iPhone 3G/S.

There aren't any restrictions that I've encountered. The thing is, T-Mobile's data plan costs $20-$25. With the iPhone, you'll only get Edge. I'd rather pay the $30 to get 3G on AT&T. There was an plan for $6 that gives you unlimited access -- I don't think this is available anymore.
Always research before updating your phone, especially if you need the unlock. The main concern about unlocking is that it requires a certain baseband. It may or may not be possible to downgrade the baseband.
The two common unlocking programs are:
ultrasn0w, requires baseband 4.26.xx or lower
blacksn0w, requires baseband of 5.11.xx or lower
(Settings -> General -> About -> Modem Firmware)
Note: The baseband isn't the same as the commonly known firmware version. However, chances are that when the firmware is updated, the baseband is also updated. Wikipedia is a good resource.
These statements might be outdated and only refer to the 3G, not necessarily to the 2G or 3GS. I don't stay updated with all the iPhone news.
