Insomniacs: What knocks you out?

I know I'm not alone with the very severe sleeping problems I have... I don't really know why I can't sleep but I'm guessing it has something to do with the war in Bosnia in 1991-1994... That's pretty much when my sleeping problems went from bad to just incredibly super bad.

Some days I'm awake for 3 days straight without the use of any stimulants (try to stay away from that stuff as often as I can unless I need it to function, and in those times I'll take a 5 hour energy shot or pop a caffiene pill). My body gets really tired and I can't function properly, yet I still can't fall asleep.

I've tried perscription sleep aids but it's a pain in the *** to constantly have to go to the doctor to get refills and crap, and most of that stuff makes me feel like crap the next day. Ambien is the only one that doesn't make me feel like crap in the morning but it's not NEARLY strong enough for the ogre.

What says the clubbers of the i? How do you sleep?

PS: F' war, I can't imagine what some of the kids in the middle east are going to grow up to be after seeing what they have seen (this is not limited to the middle east)

You ever ask your doctor about medical marijuana? I have my card and the club I go to has specific strains for specific needs.
A swisher full of some piffy would knock you out. I'm almost sure of it.

Meditation before bed to clear the mind, then after you get in bed, check to make sure that you're not tensing any muscle, then use SLOW rhythmic breathing to prevent thoughts from creeping into your head (and to relax the body physiologically); if needed, look at the swirling patterns of your optical nerves on the back of your eyelids to aid in relaxation. If you're doing it right, you should feel a "sinking" feeling; let that sinking feeling do its thing, and you'll be asleep before you know it.

Also, make your room as dark and quiet as possible, make sure you're warm enough, and try to make your bed as comfy as possible.

Melatonin usually works for me when I'm having trouble sleeping. It's non-prescription and usually available at hippie grocery stores (and a fair amount of regular ones too, in the herbal supplement section if they have one). And I never feel like crap in the morning with it.

It may be too gentle for you though. And it may halt natural melatonin production if you use it to often. Otherwise, its good for knocking the occasional bout of insomnia.
