I'm curious what the lighting equipment law is referring to... Nightvision?

I work for a driving school and we recieve a DMV notice about new traffic laws prior to them being enacted. The law your asking about refers to the HUD displaces in vehicles that do include, like you mention, night vision. I don't have the exact wording here, but if your interested I have it at the office.

High Occupancy Vehicle Lanes = Carpool Lanes

Hybrids can use them with just the driver in the car as of 1/1/05

I was watching KTVU this morning and they said that it cannot be used till the federal law thing is passed about hybrid vehicles.

I also heard on the radio that there was a law requiring lights on in foggy conditions. I couldnt find anything new on the CHP site about this though.

Yeah they did require that if the wipers are on, then the headlights should be on as well.

On the hybrid vehicles using the carpool lane, that is no longer allowed as of 1/01/2005. In the past years it was okay but no longer, till the feds approve it. bummer dude!

Does a Civic hatch with a B18B count as a hybrid?

Gino - There was some confusion about that. As far as I know, in this case, state law can superceed federal law since they do not have direct influence over CERTAIN driving conditions. I doubt that the feds are going to spend the amount of time and effort to mess with state laws like they do with prop 215. I guess we'll see though.

Huck - One law states that if your windshield wipers are on, your headlights have to be on as well. Mainly to increase viewing ability. The foggy conditions law I haven't heard about, but it wouldn't suprise me. There was a law passed about adverse weather conditions, so that may be it, but I don't have the text around. I'll have to find out.
