Whats the word on replacing the EJ20 with the STI engine? I'm guessing its probably too early to know but maybe someone has an idea. Would that 2.5 fit in the WRX engine bay? Also can the stock Tranny handle the 300hp out put of the STI engine?

If you get an STi motor, you'd be best served by getting the 6 speed with it. Gear ratios will be propoer, and the case is STRONG. See Imprezer's swap threads for all about why. In the meantime, there's a complete STi type RA drivetrain on eBay starting at $9,050...

Honestly, to get the U.S. spec engine and tranny when it gets here will cost MAD bank. You could probably sell your WRX then buy the Sti when it gets here, and then convert it to the older MY02 style front end. In the end it would probably be less than what it would cost to get the engine and tranny swap for your MY02. I've been frying my brain over this for the past few days, it's terrible.

Well the reason i posted this is because i don't think i would be able to afford the STI when it gets here. How much are they running for? Also i was just curious as to if this is even a possible swap or not. How much do you think i could get for my 02WRX. Its in great condition with Volk Te-37 rims resting on RE730's lowerd(but not tucked) with JIC coilovers. Nothing done to the engine or exhaust and there is also a HKS turbo timer. Oh yea I have about 23k miles.

The swap is definately possible. Supposedly there are some places taking deposit that will be selling the Sti for MSRP. MSRP is expected to be around 32-34k. You could probably get aroun 21-22k for yours. So 33k-21k would leave you a 11k difference. If I took a guess I would think the STi transmission and engine will probably be right around of 13k give or take a little. Again, a lot of the numbers are approximations that I think are pretty close.

Dude, just wait until the first guy wrecks the crap out of his STi (shouldn't be long now) and buy the drivetrain from the wrecking yard. I think the one in Rancho Cordova has four complete WRX drivetrains at the moment. I've been thinking of doing the same thing but since it will actually cost money, I will only be thinking about it.

its so funny how when one group of people steps up to a better motor, then the people with the next slowest car benefit because there are better motors to be had cheap. this cycle keeps going until everyone has a better motor.
pretty damn cool if you ask me.
