Yeah, thanks guys for all the advice! I hella appreciate it! Keep it coming if you got more cause I'm so a work-in-progress! That also includes with car stuff
haha
I was thinking of switching to a minimal liability coverage with a small insurance company, however, I gotta see how much they're asking for and hopefully I can pay it off. Still checking around for an everlasting glimpse of hope that I can still drive at least something and for somewhat a compromising price. Can you ask your friend with the Ford Ranger what company he went with STi'm Crazy? Anything to drive my WRX again!
Um... driving without insurance? DDDUUURRR! OK! LOL! Nah, cops would be like.. "Well look at who we bust here again! It's Steve!" I'll probably end up with a cup with my name on it while in jail courtesy of the police. Then get my cup jacked by prisoners... and then my *** banged while in the shower room!
*knock on wood*
I really don't want to sell it for one main reason: it's my first car ever. It's amazingly sentimental to me that I don't want to lose it even if I don't get to drive it anymore. That's another reason why I wouldn't want to trade it in for a STi. Means too much being my first. Sorry, but NOT FOR SALE! Not if I can help it at least.
Last but not least, I want to say thank you for all the support and all the I-club friends I got! I-club rules! You guys are the best! Thanks for not kicking me while I'm down and instead, picking me back up on my feet and easing me through this pain! Ok, enough gushy crap and seriously, this sounds too much like as if I'm leaving like a farewell! LoL! I'm not going anywhere off this board.
Steve
Feeling somewhat better now... THANKS EVERYONE!

It may also depend on the bank that owns your car, if you havn't paid it off. Many banks require full coverage with a minmum of a $500 deposit in order to not be in breach of your contract. Also keep in mind that if you keep your car completly uninsured that if the vehicle were to be stolen from your gerage or storeage you would be SOL. So keep it safe!

hell, thats exactly what im doing right now. i havent driven my car in almost 2 months. i had to stop driving for a little while (about 6 months) untill some things clear up and i can get insurance at a lower price. its not as bad as one would think, but living in SF has sure made it easier.

Yeah, good student discount... got to raise grades first! I'm working on it though haha
The whole car is paid off when I bought it, we don't owe squat fortunately. And yes, must be safe for sure! I'm hoping to slip it into my garage.
Seriously, SF is a lot easier considering we have public transportation (Muni, BART, Cal Trains, etc.) so yeah... that definately helps. My only concern is going to CSM (College of San Mateo) so I'm going to need to bum rides that way. Otherwise, I think I'll be ok. Oh yeah, less visits to Cupertino for family and friends and such.

Don't think of it as your first car ... think of it as that POS car that caused you to almost lose your license. You'll have an easier time selling it

Riiight...then lose your license too. Don't remedy bad decisions with more bad decisions. I have friends that do that...and it never works out well.
I say sell your car (probably get $16-18k now). In 3 years that will buy a used '05. Letting the WRX sit is a bad decision.

I'd suggest getting an older less powerful car for a few years.
I had an old RX-7 that put me in almost the same situation, 3 points in a year and the threat of suspension- so I stopped driving that and just drove an 84 suby wagon for a couple of years- a lot cheaper to insure simply because it's not a "sports car" and not enough HP to get in any real trouble, in a couple years I had a clean record and "good driver discount".
a couple years later I got the WRX and started getting in trouble again.....

hard work builds character. in this case, perserverance builds character too. take public transportation if it works with your schedule. it'll be a humbling experience. also, sell the WRX as you no longer need it. after 3 years, you'll most likely want something else, so why let the car depreciate while it's in storage?
it's cool that you opted out of the insurance. i have little respect for freeriders, especially when they've abused the privilege their parents have given them by paying for their stuff. good for you, man...now it's time to take it like a man.

damn dude that is harsh.
I'm guessing that your mom has good insurance..like all state or something. I went A.D.D. on the thread and didn't read it all. But if she does that means high risk drivers cost insane amounts of money.
So....before giving up hope I'd make some phone calls to companies that specialize in high risk drivers. I had 3 points and was paying like $230 for my civic so I'd venture you'd be in the $3500-4k range a year..... $300 plus a month. But hey it's better than $7k.
I'd also try to get into court. I don't know if you've done traffic school in the last 18 month but you may consider going to a judge and requesting it again. The judge does have it in his power to let you into traffic school before the 18 months is up. You can go in and say you've changed your ways....you are storing your car etc. Beg for merci and get that knocked down to 2 points...that will help a lot.
also...I don't know if your car is paid off or if the bank owns it but I know with my bank I have to have full coverage insurance on the vehicle at all times. Or they will repo it. Trust me. My insurance lapsed once and I got the letter...scared the crap out of me.
So basically I think you have a few things to do before you give up hope and sell or store your car.
not in any order.
1. go to court...not sure of the process but make a post on it and someone will
2. go to traffic school
3. call some high risk insurance companies. explain what you are doing.
4. start praying.
