Car Info: 2005 OBP WRX STI
Type: Rubbing, Scratching, Grinding, Rattling sounds
When: From a complete stop and going into 1st Gear.
Length: For only a few seconds during normal take off.
Symptoms: Sounds last for a few seconds, but during the rest of my drive, there are no sounds that I have mentioned above. I just installed a up pipe and down pipe. But I highly doubt anything is loose, because the sounds are not continuous. Just in first gear and sometimes when I reverse. Could it be my clutch?? Someone please tell me what else it can be. Thanks.

Check the nuts and bolts on the downpipe to the transmission, and check the mount from the 3rd cat to the body.
A buddy of mine had a similar problem after he took his dp off and back on. Shorty after (couple weeks) his car started making a grinding like noise only through certain RPM ranges and he thought it was his synthetic tranny oil. changed it out, still had the noise.
He got under neath and saw that the 3rd cat mount snapped.
