maybe you should invest in driving school so you don't talk smack about being able to own someone in mountain driving and end up wrecking trying to keep up....

that is the SCOUT style, first made popular by jeff cooper.
the reason is that he wanted a light rifle where he can engage the target with both eyes open.
specs called for a short action, short barreled, lightweight rifle with compact sights and a synthetic stock.
if you read the JAN 2006 issue of AMERICAN RIFLEMAN (NRA's) magazine, there is a review of the new springfield SOCOM II and it tells the SCOUT rifle story.
