Tank slap is basically when your bike handle violently shakes back and forth causing it to hit the side fo the gas tank..

steering damper basically acts like your shock absorbers for your suspension

Can someone describe what tank slap is... and how a steering dampener plays in? I am not familiar with this (I have ridden motorcycles but mainly the non crotch rocket slow kind!)

IMHO what you learn in MSF you already know if you have done high performance driving. As in, if you read the motorcycle handbook and know the dynamics of how a car handles, the same pretty much applies to the bike.

Barring things like panic accidents or people exceeding their riding ability, bike accidents are usually caused by "wtf" kind of situations where even experienced riders are going to take the plunge; MSF isn't going to teach you to not panic or give you better reactions, or allow you to percieve road hazards better. Which is why it is so important to ALWAYS wear protective gear when riding.

I recommend everyone to take the MSF course. i took it, and everything they cover you'll use when riding. plus you get your licence afterwards. it's worth every penny.

the msf course was helpful dont get me wrong but nothing i could have learned in that class could have helped me in my accident. except them drilling into your head to wear your gear.

while my road bicycle crashes dont usually end up in fireballs, the thin layer of clothing does NOT help in road rashes...

{shudders}

still remembering my last incident....
