I want to replace my head unit today

I poked around for a few pages in the stereo forums and didn't find anything really helpful. Go figure. Does anyone know where a page is with instructions on how to remove the dash and ish to get to it? Also, I know I will probably need a harness...can I get something like that at bestbuy or is it subaru specific and special order online blablabla...? I am on a misson today lol.

lookup short shifter install on 05+ on scoobymods. this will show you how to remove the trim. basically just pull the stuff off, then unscrew 2 screws.

best buy has harnesses, just tell them u want one for a subaru and what ever year ur car is. hooking it up to the unit's harness isn't hard, most of the time u can just match up the color of wires and tape them together. as for the wattage i have no idea... i'm sure people at best buy can tell u tho.

Ya I picked up a kenwood head unit with 50/chan. I have everything wired in but I have a couple wires that didn't match up to anything else, coming from the subaru harness. There are also 3 wires coming from the kenwood harness that are connected to themselves, sort of looping.

My radio doesn't seem to be getting any reception, even though the antenna is plugged in. Is there an antenna power wire that I am missing or something? I see a blue and an orange wire free coming from the subaru harness. The kenwood has a blue/white wire that is labeled ant cont, which in the diagram in the manual says power control for optional power amp or antenna control motor or w/e is being used...I'm going to give that a shot.

Even so, that still leaves the orange wire which according to another diagram I see controls illumination. The other two wires left on the kenwood assuming I connect that antenna power wire are labeled as having nothing to do with illumination, and sure enough when I turn on and off my car lights the illumination on the deck doesnt change so...I dunno. I guess I'll figure it all out. The deck was only like 119 so.. :P

x002x, tap the blue wire "power antenna" into .. hmm.. i forgot.. no seriously.. i tapped it into the antenna plug i think... lets just say the blue wire made my pioneer deck have VERY good reception.. before that, i couldnt get reception inside the garage..

oo wait i just called my friend cause i told him months back.. your suppose to connect the blue "power antenna" into the 12v wire. YES i said it. Antenna to 12v. I don't know why that works but it boosted my aftermarket deck's antenna to the stock deck's capability.
