I know i may be jumping the gun but the man said it would take 72hrs to clear and it's been almost 7 days now.

Anyway, I sold my old TV to Chris (bassplyr) and bought a new 32"HDTV with stand. It was a perfect "open-item" and totaled at $1400.

So i put the amount on 2 money cards (ATM's; one personal and one joint account with my fiancee). Everything is fine and i walk out with my TV, Stand and a $700 transaction on 2 cards.

Well, I get home and set everything up and realize I had totally forgot to use the $200 worth of gift cards i had been saving for the past year! I go back to bestbuy later that evening and ask the customer service people if they can credit my two cards accounts with $100 each.

Simple, right?! Well i forgot that my debit cards were technically overdrawn after those first $700 transactions so they were technically "frozen" until midnight. After they swiped my cards about 20 times they finally said "sorry sir" come back in 2 days. At that point they voided the transaction. I'm thinking maybe they voided the initial transaction earlier that day too for $1400?!

I said no worries and i'd do as they said. Well i jump onto my online banking this afternoon (almost 7 days later) and i have $1400 extra worth of funds that hasn't been touched. I realize that they can catch on through paper trails and I have more than enough money in the accounts so i don't need to worry about a bonce. Regardless, im keeping my fingers crossed that i got through the cracks and they'll just call it a loss on their part (like they can't afford it)

About how long should i wait until it's a done deal?!

 

That would be amazing. I have no advice, I just think that woudl be damn cool if you get away with it, but I doubt you will.

 

let us know. haha going to get a credit and hitting up bestbuy if it works.

 

Just don't spend the money. They'll find it.

Oh and don't buy a $1400 ANYTHING if you don't have the money. Period.

A while back, I bought my couch for about $500 from Macy's using my debit card. Their electric card reader wasn't working so they did the old skool carbon copy deal. My account wasn't charged for about a month and a half. I thought maybe i had gotten away...but as mexicanpizza said, they'll find it.

 

Unfortunatly I think they will catch on. About two years ago, a local Radio Shack did the same basic thing with a suround sound system I bought. Long story short, I spent the "extra" money. About two months later RS must have figured out their mistake and withdrew the money. Let's just say some checks were bounced. I hope it works out for you though, you a good guy. By the way, Alex, I'm loving Eric's old t.v.! :-P

keep the money in the account, see if they ever catch it

 

Close the accounts and roll the money into new ones.

I thought about laundering the money that way.

I'll just see what happens. I'm hoping they'll suspect employee foul play because it was an open item.

Anyway, im sure they'll catch it eventually. If they do oh well.
