hmmmm... that is a tough dilemma. I would definitely consider living in the city. I lived there last year and it was an awesome experience. Since you will be meeting new people and living in a new place, I think it would be better to live near where you go to school. Plus, I am sure that you partially chose SF because of the city itself, so take advantage of it!

agree that craigslist.org is the way to go. i have seen garages for rent throughout the city for $100-175 ish.

good luck!

I live in San Francisco and my apartment has a garage.......

But my rent is $1550

It takes a serious commitment to keep a nice car in the city.

The dorms are nice because it's easier to meet people... try to find a cheap garage if you decide on dorms.

But you can find really cheap housing in SF if you're willing to share an apt. As mentioned before www.craigslist.org is the best way to find a room share. That's how I found my current roommates and I live in SF. All of my friends have found places to live via craigslist as well.

And remember most of the city doesn't require a parking permit... and even if you live in an area that does, it's about $30/year. Check out this site for more info...

Good luck - In my opinion, nothing beats living in the city!

Then again there's always the outer Sunset and Richmond district. It's like living in the city but not. And there's plenty of street parking and Muni will take you right to school. Just make sure you get some locking lug nuts.

That's why we have public transportation silly. San Francisco is not a city for car owners.

I did C for about 5 years. I went to AAC by BART every weekday. Parking nearby is pricey for any of the campuses. Average low for SF is about $9 daily (you're in the middle of the SF business district). Feeding meters isn't that fun either.

What are you majoring in?

All real cities are unhospitable to cars.

That's just the nature of cities.

It is true.
Therefore: We car enthusiasts must destroy all cities. Join me brothers.

All I am gonna say is this.....coming from Colorado.....you will notice very quickly that EVERYTHING in CA is WAAAAAAAAAY more expensive than anywhere else in the US....period....Also....just my opinion....I wouldnt want to keep my car in the city.....esp. SF....as others have said...big cities....esp. SF...are absolutely inhospitable for cars if you care about them, and dont want door dings out the wazoo, and possibly other damage (people setting stuff on your car to unlock their doors, people trying to fit a Ford Expedition in the compact parking space right next to you, etc.) if it were me...I alwayz avoid driving my car up to SF, even for just the day.
I would try to find a storage place where you can park your car inside....(Public Storage or something along those lines.)

good luck

-Ted

Brotha speaks the truff! Take from us AAC students/alumni. You don't wanna pay for $9 parking in the financial district where AAC is especially if public transportation is cheaper.

She's industrial design, Marc. BTW, Kellie, if you have to take any ripoff general ed. classes at AAC and need certain text books, I might have a few.

Um, that unamerican industry pays my rent.

If you want transportation info look at www.511.org
You can do trip planning there, and it is a good resource for traportation.
