i have the evidence that everything on my car is legal he was trippin about the intake i told him i bought it from subaru and he ( the ******* sheriff ) you still need a carb sticker
You technically do need a CARB sticker. If you get the CARB sticker before your visit to the ref then, assuming no other power mods, you can leave your car as is.
This is why if I ever do power-related mods, I want to be stealthy: relatively quiet, stock looking, and maybe (hi-flow) catted for less odor.
When reffed, you don't have to pay any fines? Of course it's still time consuming and a big PITA.

I'm looking into getting: MadDad Whisper, Borla Hush, Cobb, or Stromung. I believe the Cobb and Stromung are louder than the first two, but they have a nice deep grumble (IMHO) -- I've never heard all 4 at the same or even with the same setup. So it's hard to compare them fairly...
If you want to leave your car as it is, you can pay a big fine and skip the ref all together. My fine was $450 or something ridiculous.
Thats the ridiculous thing. They're only fining you because they want money. If it was actually for cleaning California's air, they wouldn't allow you to just slap your parts back on/ keep them on in the first place.

You could also go with the spt catback. It's quiet, but still delivers that boxer rumble with out being obnoxious. Plus it's a dealer option part, so you should be covered. I have also hear somewhere that the dealer will kick you down a CARB sticker for the CAI if yours didn't come with one. Look into that as well. In the mean time hit up the classifieds and craigslist for something a little less conspicuous in the cat back department.
