I just have to laugh....

Some kid just showed up at my shop in a GC8 TELLING me that he wants me to get a EJ205, and bolt it into his L.

He told me that it will run just fine on the stock ECU programming, and that all I have to do is bolt it in.

He got all mad when I politely told him that it wouldnt work, and said "thats not what my friend said" I love that one. "my friend did it, and I drove his car"

As a business owner, how do I react to this sort of thing?

I just smiled and said "looks like your friend knows something I dont, maybe you should take it to him."

How do I get people to listen to reason?

You can never get people to listen to reason if they are dead set in their ways. Its pretty funny though some of the stories that they come up with.

Trust me, I'll tell new people at my work the easiest/fastest way to do things, but they still do it their way and take forever and get tired more quickly.

as a business owner you should just laugh at it to yourself and not publicly post about how retarded your customer is being.

You can't get some people to listen, thats part of the business, sometimes you just have to let the customer go, say its something you aren't willing to do.

:rotfl: ask my manager that one Marc! if a garage obeyed "the customer is always right" they'd have the worst reputation because all of the cars they worked on wouldn't work or would die quickly

I would have told him to have his friend bring his car by the shop

You're right, I shouldn't have singled him out. There are lots of people that have been told mis-information, but I never called him retarded.

I guess I just needed to know that I handled it correctly. This stuff is new for me, I have never been trained in PR.

you can just tell him that as far as you know the engine cannot just be popped in, but if you're wrong and its as easy as he claims it is he shouldn't have a problem finding a shop to do it. then wish him good luck and send him on his way. Most likely he doesnt have the engine or the money for the engine or labor, so its not like you'll really be losing a potential customer.

Doesn't Rau have an L.......was this you Rau?
