I just got a '71 volvo P1800e
I was once looking for one of those simply because they are dead sexy and kind of obscure. I wanted just a rolling chassis tho so I could put my own motor in it. If the motor is not in very good condition I say junk that sucker. Or sell it to someone who is trying to restore a car. As I recall the motors in those things are junk...

Seriously, the guy would do a couple laps before a race, pull into the paddock and adjust his valves, and sometimes the carb. After he'd run the race (8 or 10 laps at Laguna Seca, iirc) he'd repeat the same procedure. I don't know, maybe that's common for old cars, but it seemed like a pita.

man I cant belive he just geave that to you, I was looking for one of those forever
anyhow, why not just swap a non turbo SR20DE in there like Im doing with my Spitfire.
Here me out.
These are very cheap since no one wants the non-turbo, about 1K for full swaps with engine/trans/harness/ECU.
for a custom install the non-turbo makes it alot less hassle
they make 150-165hp depending on which one you use.
They are over-engineered for an NA motor and basically bullet-proof.

Ha, well, before i could come pick it up he got on the ol' interweb and realized how much it was worth, so now it's gone from "nah, just come pick it up" to "nah, just come pick it up and also give me 6k". I knew i shouldn't have started this thread 'till i had keys in hand.

I've seen a few P1800's with a Volvo B230T (740/760 Turbo) engine shoe-horned under the hood with an M 48(?) 5speed...very good power vs weight.
Have you read the ID tag on the passenger-side wheel well?
