I havent started the motor in about 5yrs...is it still good?

So I still have my first ever car that I purchased....400$, 4 Door, 1962 Chevy Nova....When I bought it It had a rebuilt inline 6 motor...ran cherry. But then i picked up an STi. Sure enough I wanted nothing to do with my Nova, all I wanted to do was drive my STi. So I took it to my uncles ranch up in Morgan Hill. Its been parked there for over 5yrs. now..I was just wondering if my motor is done with or if I can still run it? Thanks ahead of time...

It might be a sob to start up, but it should still run if it did before. Have your uncle help you out and pour a little gas in the carb, and make sure the motor oil is still motor oil. Those 6cyl don't quit

I can't say I really know the answer. But if it was me I'd put in fresh oil, coolant, gas, plugs and a battery. Then crank the car a few times to get the oil circulated then crank it all they way and try to start it.

My buddies El Camino sat for 3 years in his garage and it started back up after a little bit of maintenance.

I can come out if you want. Id love a nova. Lol!

Can you manually turn the crank?

1. Drain the gas tank and check for rust. Buy some spare fuel filters.
2. Change the oil.
3. Flush the radiator.
4. New plugs and charge the battery.
5. New gas
6. Start it.

I've seen motors sit for 30 years and fire right up. My caddy sat for 20. Did the above stuff and it drove home from tracy at 70mph.

NOOOOOO

You need to prime the oil pump and circulate oil before starting. Change the oil and filter
Remove the distributor, use a drill and an priming tool to sping the oil pump for a few minutes before you start up

also take out the plugs and pour a bit of oil into each cylinder. then put a breaker bar on the crank pulley and crank it over by hand a couple times first, should be easy to do with the plugs still out/no compression, make sure its in neutral.

This!!
I would do this first before anything. Some cheap lightweight oil will do just fine.
