oldest know picture of Tokyo (Edo), 1863. Even almost 150 years ago the population was TWICE that of San Francisco Today!
Sad to think Tokyo looked much like this pic until we firebombed the entire city into the ground in ww2, well at least we didnt drop a nuclear bomb on em too

well I cant post the Edo panorama without posting this.
Full view of Yokohama at night. Stole it from Rich's IHOP but deserves to be here too. Really takes alot to blow me away after surfing the net for this long, but this is amazing
Also helps that Im looking at it on a 50" LCD widescreen too

And besides, if it weren't for so much of its infrastructure being damaged during the war, Japan's modernization wouldn't be half as advanced as it is today.
A real technological and (to a degree) societal phoenix, that's Japan.

Yakuza boss's daughter wrote a tell all book.
Best part, theres a 10 page full color layout with centerfold of her in the middle

okay, I made up the centerfold thing. But if there was I'd buy it! Or at least run off to the corner of Barnes & Noble with it for a few minutes....
