i have a dilemma

So, as many of you may or may not know, I drive that green 98 2.5rs w/ WRX motor swap. I love the car to death, but there are a few things that erk me about it, but I'm willing to live with them and eventually fix things to my liking(like the open rear dif, a tranny with 115k on it, front bumper, etc.) It has H6 rear brake upgrade, wrx front brakes, STi v5 struts/springs, Whiteline 24mm adjustable rear sway, wrx front sway, perrin end links all around, steering rack bushings, rear subframe lock bolts, front/rear STi replica strut bars, wrx shift ****, arm rest extension, etc., and a 3" turboback. I think that's it for the mods.. haha
Well, here's the dilemma. My friend is trying to sell his car to buy a gc8. He wants mine! He's thrown me an offer of $13,500 and says we can work up from there. I paid $5,600 for the car and as of now the car has 115,xxx on and about 22k on the motor. From LIC, i built a bill of about $9,500 with all the stuff I had done to the car with the swap. That's a grand total of $16,000. Is $14,000 a reasonable enough offer to sell my beloved unicorn??
I would have never otherwise considered selling my car, but I highly doubt I will get any offers of $14k for my car ever again. I still owe about $4500 on the motor swap (which I'm doing $500 payments per month). So, I'd be left with about $10k for a nice car/down payment. My thought have led me to think about getting an 05 evo gsr.
What should I dooooooooo??????? A good chance to build my credit if I can keep my ground at the dealership when buying.. But I love Subarus so much!! But a new Evo is very appealling..

You are exactly right. You'll never see an offer like that for a franken car again (as sweet as your car is). So, if you really are interested, I'd say take it. of course, the usual warning about selling cars to friends applies...

mcowger is right, no-one else would offer that much for your car, that's just the way it is.
now add up all the money you would have to spend on your existing car to change out the tranny and the diff.....that should pretty much seal the deal.....because even if you did all that, your car would still be worth the same.

Yeah, it's gotten to the point where I'm battling "For the Love of it" vs "Practicality". I know I can put another 9k in this car and not increase the resale by a dime. So, it's like.. do the car for the enthusiast love of it, or sell it for the practicality of a newer car.

nice car, but sounds like you already knew what would be the smartest thing to do before you even posted. like someone else (and you) mentioned, it's very unlikely you'll get another offer like that again even if you poured more $$$ into your ride.
You've already hit the point of diminishing returns, so unless you absolutely can not live w/out your RS, take your friend's offer. Even at $13,500, you're getting close to what some WRX's are selling for. No offense, your car is nice, especially w/the engine swap, but it is a '98.

you pay $500 a month for that motorswap? So basically you pay $500 a month for a 6 yr old car?
Say that to yourself and let that resonate for a couple minutes, then...
sell that crap, use 10k for a downpayment on a STi or an EVO and your payments will be less a month and you will have a car that outperforms your current car. Stock.
(yes I know your current car *might* be faster in a straightline, that's not what I am talking about)
