so the cop left and you waited there an hour? i would have bailed right after the cop left.
if he didn't tell you or ask you, "do you know what i pulled you over for?" (which is basically them trying to get you to confess for the violation.) then legally you should be o.k.

Usually when cop leaves that means he/she got more important call. I've seen that before.

check with the DMV periodically. After a year if the ticket still hasen't showed up in the system, you're off the hook. Happened to me. Got the ticket in hand, checked back for a year and it wasn't turned in by the officer; I never had to pay for it.
Seriously though, the time limit for a cop to turn in a ticket is one year.

this happened to me years ago in modesto. It was a motorcycle cop. As soon as he asked for my information he left it with me and it was clear he was listening to his radio because he would step back and pay attention for a second and then come and talk to me. He got on his bike and rode away without letting me go. As soon as he left, I followed him about half a mile down mchenry ave jussssst in case. He didnt wave me on or anything. Im sure he knew it was me. He took a left onto orangeburg and i took a right. I have no idea why he pulled me over. I was NOT going to wait there. When you are pulled over you are in the custody of the officer. If the officer leaves, you are no longer in custody. goodbye.

To add to what JohnDaBrit said, a cop can't keep you for longer than is reasonable on the side of the road.
With your daughter being in the car, if you get anything in the mail fight it via written declaration and simply state that you were left hanging for an unreasonable amount of time considering you had your child with you. If you even get the ticket, which isn't likely.
