It isn't so much the killing of the dogs in China that I find offensive, since animals in the U.S. are killed for food and sport, but the unecessarily inhumane way in which they are accomplishing it. I can understand a medical emergency condition but as Salty has pointed out in the other thread, there is a quicker and painless way to accomplish the same thing using a small caliber bullet to the brain.

I read that article on BBC a few days ago. This is a much better and more informative article:

"the dogs were clubbed to death in the street as their owners watched."

Haha... Americans will never get used to what's happening in China. All we do in reaction is continue to buy their crap. What about all the working conditions? Someone should find some links on the mines in China. Do we care? Doesn't seem like it because no matter what, price is paramount and people just don't care where it came from.

We often hear "China is a growing superpower", "Their development is dwarfing that of any other country", etc... but I think that the country lacks too much stability. After the communist/cultural revolution the people lost all morals and ethics. I don't need to get into what happened during the communist revo since i hope everyone has an idea of what went down. Now, parts of the country are filthy rich, yet the people haven't changed much. It's like giving hungry people a buffet. Now China is facing a unbalanced wealth distribution.

I don't think we need to hope China gets nuked. With money, people are getting more powerful. That's why the govt. is watching businesses really closely, so that nobody can ever challenge them. Eventually, the Chinese are going to get pissed off. The destitute will be unhappy with the extremely rich, and the rich will be unsatisfied with restrictions. It'll crash. I'm just worried about any kind of offensive from the Chinese before it does.

Heartless military tactics. Ever heard of the "red sea"?

I'm surprised the Chinese government actually allows such an organization to exist. Their government has a long history of imprisonment without due process of law (by U.S. standards) for those who publicly oppose the power elite. Even non-violent protesters are sent to prison for life.

I'd like to see them try and take my dog off me. They would have to kill me first and I would be taking some of them with me. That's so jacked and inhumane. It pisses me off beyond belief.

Actually, they eat dog there all the time, even in fine restaurants. A guy I know works as a chef in china and has dog on his menu twice.

State of freedom in China - going up
State of freedom in USA - going down

In china there is local corruption but those in true power are committed to progress.
In America it is the opposite.

Private equity firms. You read the newspaper about corporate scandal and CEOs taking exorbatant severance pay. That's nothing. Enron's nothing. The true beast is the part of the financeer world that's destroying American innovation to reap the bills. You know, each of the top 50 hedge fund managers took home more than a quarter billion in 2005. With no contribution to society whatsoever.

Tell me, in 20, 30 years can you tell me with 100 percent certainty the US citizens will be better off than Chinese in terms of personal liberty and quality of life? I don't know the answer, but I definately cannot say with certainty.

Nukin' China?

Yeah, that would be smart...

...obliterate the entire world of wild panda bears, not to mention killing ALL the dogs, and radiation fallout would expose that many people to a slow and painful death.
