i accidentally ran a red light.. kinda

To my disbelief, i think i broke 2 laws today.

i was entering an onramp to 580 and realized there were two lanes for this on ramp. From far away, the right lane seemed so much longer compared to the left, so i obviously entered the left lane only to realize i was in the carpool lane... fail #1.

the meter lights were on so the right lane had at least 5 cars but there were none on the carpool onramp lane so i shamefully slowed down passing those who had been patiently waiting... as i was slowing down in neutral, the light turned green so i revved to pop my gear into first gear, but as soon as i popped it in and crossed the white line, the light turned red ... fail #2.

today is a fail day.

behind some of the metering lights, ive noticed cameras. if a camera snapped a pic of me today, sighhhh major fail. red light violation + car pool violation?

is this when you say, fml?

if its a normal stop light and you passed the white line you should be fine. Since once you break the line on green you're safe. But i don't know city meters/lights so i'm probably 100% wrong

I've seen a lot that just wait for you to start moving, then it goes back to red, doesn't mean you have to stop again if you didn't get through in time.

You could always claim that you had a child seat in the back, those cameras don't snap your entire car, they only get a shot of the front passengers, so you can contest that, but I dunno about the red light one. Those are expensive!

You sure they were full on cameras? Or were they the small ones that they use to monitor traffic and such? If that's the case, then you dont have to worry at all.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen cameras on freeway onramps, just the monitor/sensors that they have in place to tell them about the traffic and such. The only place that has cameras like that is at toll plazas and such.

How about hopefully you didn't get caught and there's a happy ending afterwards!? If you did get caught, written declaration trial and try to be more observative next time. Good Luck.

Just a FYI, speed/light cameras on CA highways are illegal, its why not even the CHP can use them, its considered entrapment due to several court cases from the mid 90's.

Yep, and in CA, all cities that use red light cameras MUST by law, have signs on every possible road into the city limits, this includes side streets and residential. If you can get into a city line without seeing a sign, they have violated state law.

Thats why in San Leandro you see a billion of the damn signs.
