How to Start a company?
Hey, does anyone out there know how to start a company? I am trying to start a company and need to incorporate. I also need insurance because I am going to be working on other people's computers and networks.
If anyone knows how to do this and/or where to find the resources to get good insurance and file the paperwork on a LLC?
Thanks in advance.

1) Get a good CPA. He will help you decide how to incorporate (i.e. S-Corp, LLC, C-Corp, etc.) If you don't know one, mine is excellent.
2) You will need to file a ficticious business name with the county you will be operating out of. This will entail paying fees, putting ads in the newspaper to publish the filing, etc.
3) You will need to apply to the State Board of Equalization, for a sellers permit, since you will be selling something (your services, computer parts, etc.). They will grant you a permit, and, based on your type of business, and how large it is, determine how often you are to send in collected sales tax (yearly, quarterly, monthly, etc.).
4) You will need to buy insurance for your business, to protect your assets, should you be sued or held liable for something. I work with very good insurance people.
PM me and I'll give you some more info.

I tried to incorporate last year. The actual process is easy, you can go to http://www.bizfilings.com They have a service that will incorporate you within a short period of time. For California, it will cost you around $500 not including business licenses required by the county your company will established in.
Your best bet for starting this type of company is to create an S corporation. This is very similar to a self-proprieter type deal where the profits of your company is your income. Tax wise and for other legal reasons you may want to do this instead.
S corporations can be run with no board of directors unlike an LLC which I believe requires partners, a board of directors, etc...
Why do you need to incorporate? Will a self proprietorship be adiquate?
Ideally, to incorporate, you should find a local lawyer who specializes in incorporations. While bizfilings can get you started, you really should talk to lawyer. In the mean time, you can literally buy the book "incorporating for dummies" that book will give you a good idea on what your options are.
careful, It's a big step and you don't want to miss the landing.
If you have questions send me a PM and I will try to answer them.
