Just FYI for anyone interested or searching,

I passed smog with just the 3rd cat and a tune from GST. All my numbers were pretty good, between 1-10% of the max allowed.

Although he was really looking at my downpipe area and went underneath to look as well. I have a shorty downpipe with a stock dp casing covering about 80% of it so it looks kind of stock.

I'm just glad I don't have to swap out my dp for smog anymore. woot

Yes, this happened to me, passed in 2008, no pass 2010 on the sniffer at idle. Cat is wearing out.

Not only that, but in CA if your model cat is not within the list of cats set by the state, you will fail. Had to deal with that last year as well.

Oh I didn't barely pass, I meant I was only 10% of the max. So for example, I was 15 and the max was 130.

Last year, I paid...

$410 for the '08 STi.
$399 for the '01 Audi A4.

Made sure I got those listed on my tax filing.

I tried to pass smog for the first time this year with a high flow cobb catted downpipe and failed miserably...had to swap out for my stock DP then passed with flying colors.

I really heated up the cobb cat too...I guess it's a DP swap for me every other year now

hey I hope you guys that are trying to pass modded cars are paying for pre-tests firsts and not failing on real smog tests that are getting sent to the state right?? You can usually get the pretest for like 10-20 bucks and they will tell you right onut if it will pass or not, and you dont want a fail on your reg record

I just passed with a single after-market cat in my 02, guess the guy didn't look. Also I think I only payed like $105 for the reg on that one.

Just moved to Oregon, 54$ for any car for two years!?! Wowzers! The savings keep on going

Plus the smog test is 19$ and all they do is plug in the OBD2 and check for fault codes and that the monitors have run.
