How much does it cost to register a used car?

I'm thinking about selling my WRX and getting another used car. Does anyone know how much registration, license, transfer, tax, etc fees are? Any experience or help would be greatly appreciated.

Note:
-The purchase and sale would both be done through private party.

Of course i looked up info on the DMV website, but still cant figure out a ballpark range. I used their Vehicle Registration Calculator to calculate how much the registration fee would be for my WRX and it came out to about $1000… are these fees really that high?

It depends on how old the car's tags are, if they are from 02 or something you're gonna be paying a lot for registration, but if they are up to date they should be about the same as what you pay now, also for the transfer, just say it was a very generous donation (:

From what I know there are no extra title transfer fees, just when you get the car be sure to have whoever you're buying the car from put a low price as the selling price on the change of ownership paper...the more they put down that you paid for the car the more you will have to pay to the dmv

When you buy a used car, its pretty much like paying sales tax on the purchase price, so for a $15000 car, a $1000 fee sounds typical. In addition to this, there is a transfer fee and a couple of other things.
