:focus: Accepted as a Transfer student to both schools from Junior College and Majoring in Econ.
Plan to work a variety of Internships to get a better feel of where I want to end up. Grad school is still an option, unless I find a good job after graduation. Lived in the Bay Area (the pennisula) my entire life. Intend on Graduating w/ atleast a 3.5 GPA, but also want a to have fun on Fri/Saturday nights. And having good eye candy on campus does enhance the college experience. Davis is giving me more finnacial aid and off campus living is cheaper.
San Diego is giving less finnacial aid and rent is more expensive. This is a hard choice. Which school has more of a friendly atmosphere? B/c going to a school where everyone just tries to outsmart each other and has an "everyman for themselves attitude would suck"(i.e. CAL)...

What? You mean that I have to make my own decisions? I didn't sign up for this...

You can accomplish these goals at any college... It's what you put into it, and the people you surround yourself with. I've attended three universities, and I've had great experiences at all of them.

If you have monetary constraints, the answer should be pretty clear.

Last piece of advice is really important. I knew people from SoCal who attend Davis and hate it up here. Then they transfer out. Haha. I am sure it works the same at SD as well.

I go to UC Davis. All of my friends at UCSD have complained about the antisocial feeling of the campus, etc. People who think that davis is only cows and boring as hell either:

1) Don't go to Davis
2) Don't know the right people.

I know some people like that. I use to hang out with a group of people from SoCal and they were always complaining about how it is boring in Davis. Sad thing is that they never really looked for fun things to do.

The Lake Berryessa drive is really nice. Didn't know about it until I drove it with the Fairfield peeps.

I go to UCSD and love it. I love the atmosphere, and the whole "socal people suck" thing is a joke, because 75% of the school comes from places other than socal (A LOT from Norcal, actually).

Regardless, San Diego is the 2nd biggest city in California, therefore there will always be something to do. Weather it is the beach, Mexico trips, Vegas, Arizona trips, etc, it's all not too far away. The weather is amazing, La Jolla is beautiful, and the girls are cute.

As far as fun goes, you make what you want out of that. Some people expect to have fun handed to them somehow. 50% of this school is nerds that are way into studying. But the other 50% are people who understand the necessity for balance between studying and living college life.

Visit both, but make sure you visit during the school year to get a good feel of what the school is like.

umm... you must be thinking SDSU not UCSD. THAT'S the real party school. based on my friends, i'd say the davis folk party harder than the ucsd folk. perhaps out of sheer boredom.

or maybe it's like was mentioned before... you could be an EE major (like me) and be in heaven but still be in hell. what you put in to school will be a big part of your experience.

i love the bay area and that's why i moved back but i do miss the weather sometimes. a bonfire in sd is a bonfire whereas a bonfire in sf is standing around a fire because you're freezing your *** of otherwise. surfing is actually surfing down there. none of this wetsuit business.

i would've loved to go to davis for snowboarding reasons, but the socal resorts are closer to sd than tahoe is to san francisco. i used to cut class all the time to go. honestly, there's plenty of time after graduating to move back to the better half of california and do all the fun stuff.

ucsd's strengths are probably biology, engineering, and we've got some nobel prize winning faculty in the econ department. i can speak for engineering and econ and say they've got great faculty... half of my friends were bio majors and they seem to be doing well for themselves (although they were mostly pre-dental or pre-med or their off in optometry school now).

but really, ucsd seems to have more academic chutzpah behind the name. you will see this as you head east.

btw... had my honda stolen twice... second time insurance totaled it. and people in la jolla CAN NOT park.

but if we consider the girls of the city of San Diego vs. Davis, then maybe SD would come out on top? hopefully...

Go down there and see for yourself. I don't know why you won't follow my/crazy_sherm's advice to visit both... Listening to people telling you how a "friend of their friend said this" isn't a very good way of making an informed decision.

I did visit the UCSD for admit day, although I didnt feel like I was surrounded by supermodels, the prospects did seem promising. Love the wheather of Diego. I never really toured UCD's campus, but have been to Davis a number of times for friends & partying, and there were a lot of cuties at the social events. But I dont like the town of Davis itself. The only plus to Davis is that its relatively close to the bay and you dont have to worry about your car getting stolen & its just a boring hr & 1/2 drive up highway 80. I've driven to SD and 9 hrs does suck a lot more, but Im going to SD. It also appears most would choose SD over Davis. And if the parties do suck in SD, I could always bring condoms down to San Diego State(STD SU)...
