Dude you are insane!!!!!
We have people here at my work who live over 100mi away, but they live down here during the week and go home on our days off.

Me: 15mi Fremont-Santa Clara 20-25mins in the morning and 30-40mins at nite.
I usually drive my truck to and from work, So I get about 16mpg.
My subby gets about 19mpg.

Damn, my work right now is about 2 miles from my house and since I take side streets, my commute takes about 5 minutes. When I move though, my commute will be about 5 or so paces since I'll be working from home...

5 miles each way on 101/92 which can take either 5 or 45 minutes depending on the time of day.

In general, what time will traffic be the worst (Hwy 101 from SF to Sunnyvale and back)? When do I need to start going/coming back if I want to avoid as much traffic as possible?

Please share your personal experience. TIA
I do that exact commute, cept I am technically in santa clara. I am going up to genetech. I use the oyster point exit on 101. I take 280 to 380 to 101. I leave around 7 and the traffic is congested through pagemill starting from wolf. But after that it is free sailing, you can go 80 all the way if you would like. It is a very pleasant drive, I love looking at the lake in the morning.

Coming back the traffic can get tricky coming into page mill, el Monte, and Magdalena. If it starts to come to a stop, if you can react quick enough, the fastest lane is the far right hand lane, makes no sense, but it is. If there is an accident you get jump off and get on foothill and get to homestead or fremont from there.

Hope this helps.

Shortest route? Hwy. 16 to 101 to San Rafael (38 mi. each way)

Funnest route? Bodega Ave to Spring Hill to Chileno Valley to Wilson Hill to Hicks Valley to Red Hill to Nicasio Valley to Lucas Valley (no brakes on Lucas Valley FUN!!) to 101 and on in...or run down to Sir Francis Drake and on in direct to work.

Miles? About 55 each way.

Smiles? Well worth it.

Man when I lived down there last I was living in Dixon (end of Solano County by Davis) and I had to go all the way to Hayward (Banctek) and to boot I was a field tech for PC/Server repair and had to drive with Tomas guide in hand all day long. Man that was horrible. I had to smoke like an 1/8 in the car everyday to stay sane!
