how do YOU clean your intercooler??

i was just wondering how YOU guys keep youre intercooler clean and keep all the other debris out. do you use engine degreaser to get the oil out? i heard you have to water simple green down before you use it and mist it on and sun dry it before you reinstall it?

splittter/scoop screen? which catch can is the MOST effective?

thanks

Wait - don't you have to use a plug for your hood scoop when you wash the car? What happens when you get the IC wet?

I have never cleaned the inside. to get the rocks out I disconnect it, flip it over and shake.

I would use mcdrama's method and for regular road dust and crap I would use a soft brush on the vacuum and lightly brush/vac the I/C. My '03 didn't have any bent fins when I sold it. I also made a scoop screen out of mesh from Home Depot which probably kept the bigger crap out.

most of the large debis and rocks (stuff that dents fins) can be pulled out by hand or with tweezers. if its really nasty, like after a day on dirt roads ill take it off and clean it properly.

usualy i just clean it when i clean the rest of the engine compartment and use simple green and a hose.
