How do I Sell a car with a blown motor in Cali?
I'm selling my 91 RX-7, and it has a blown engine but a very clean exterior. How do I sell the car without getting a smog certificate? On the DMV website it says the seller is required to show proof of smog, but if its not running how do you go about doing this? It has a clean title, and I would hate to have to salvage or junk it. Thanks.
Seller is legally responsible for the car passing smog, but if you and the buyer agree that he will smog it after he buys it from you then DMV doesnt care. Just as long as someone gets it to pass smog.

All you gotta do is write up a simple Bill of Sale that states all the needed information. Something like "I _______ sell this ________ VIN:________ to _______ for ___________ in AS-IS condition with no implied warranty whatsoever. Buyer is responsible for smog and registration." Both of you should sign and date it, and you should have a copy for each person.
This is how I have bought a few cars, got them cheaper because they wouldn't pass smog and fixed whatever I needed to. If you still have questions and are anywhere near Sunnyvale, go to the "MVD Registration Service" on the corner of Wolfe and Reed and they can help you with whatever you need. Great place, no lines. I have reg'd my last 4 cars there with no issues.

Thanks for all the info, I guess I don't really have to worry about the smog then. I will let the buyer deal with all the DMV hassle.
