How bad will the traffic/crowds for Tahoe this weekend?

I know it will be crowded in general, but some specific tips to get through it all would be great.

We already have a cabin and we're thinking Kirkwood. I was planning on leaving 2-3pm friday for the drive up.

Thanks

Just depends on the weather and the time of day. I always get up there before 9 am and the traffic is never bad. If I get up there late i'll hit traffic on 50. If the weather is bad I'll leave earlier. Looks like there may be some storms this weekend.

Leaving at 2-3 Friday going up 88 should probably be OK, I'd avoid 50 and 80 if you can help it though, just to minimize the stress.

DON'T go via Tracy-Stockton-Jackson on Friday at 2. I just did this past weekend and it took me 5 and 1/2 hours to get up to Kirkwood cause of the damn Tracy-Stockton traffic. A buddy took the 680-80-16-88 route beat me by at least and hour. And he left from San Jose, while I left from Sunnyvale.

Kirkwood is by far the best place to go during a holiday weekend. I'm talking about the lines at the resort. getting there or any place in tahoe will be bad.

Oh yeah, I would avoid Stockton and Tracy too, I usually go 4 to Antioch, cross the bridge there and take 160 up to 12 and then take that through Lodi to 88.

South Lake Tahoe has no rain in the forcast, just snow....

And Kirkwood being a couple thousand feet higher should be even better.

I'm jealous, wish I could be skiing this weekend...

Another vote for the 160 route...BUT...is there a way to bypass the Antioch-Oakley construction traffic? Usually, at 3pm, it's not bad yet though, but I've been hit by it a couple of times.

Good thing ya picked K-Wood since it's one of the better resorts to hit up on wknds. It'll be crowded by their standards but not insanely bonkers like most others this holiday wknd.

As far as driving, definitely LEAVE BEFORE 2:00! I dunno if you're actually staying in South Lake or much closer to K-Wood. Whether ya need to hit 50 or 88, obviously, the sooner ya take off the better. But if for some reason ya can't manage to get to the Tracy area by 2:30 or so, the alternate routes suggested are way better.

Have fun & be safe!
