Kind of doubt thieves are going to ring the door bell.

But you said:

If they did ring the doorbell to see if you're home, the doorbell alerts you on your phone that someone is outside and you can ask them what they want. They will think you are home even when you're not. They might've skipped your house and moved to another one if you responded to the doorbell via cellphone. Plus you could have gotten images of their faces to assist the police with other break-ins.

Everywhere, yes. But a lot of it happens often in SJ. Take Oakland for example...

I see, and not a bad idea then - however we don't know that those are the same people that broke into our place. The cops are just theorizing that is what they are doing as that is how they have the description of the people and their vehicle because that has been what's been happening in the neighborhood at the same time and know it as a tactic for this sort of thing.

Keep an eye on craigslist up and down the I-5 corridor for unique items like this...

Again, sorry to hear.

Yeah, we called all the pawn shops in the area and have been checking CL. All of my stereo equipment was quite specific and none of it is the sort of item sold up there usually. My speakers were custom built for me by a friend so you can't really buy them in any store...

Just an FYI as well...

Those door to door salesman, a lot are the solar ones, they don't do background checks when they hire these people. The program that is releasing people from prison, those former prisoners are getting hired into some of those positions coming around and knocking on your doors. So just be aware of people walking your neighborhood.

I'm thankful that my front door only has a view of an empty dining room and a living room that is my son's playroom. No one can see further into my house to see what I have in the TV room. As far as they can tell, we are just barely able to afford the house cause we sure can't furnish it.

They can't see anything in our house either besides tools in the mud room, most of which they left. They wanted the electronics, but you can't see any of that from outside.

Sorry to hear man! Hope all goes well for you.

But just now, I had to ring police up since some guy has been driving up and down the block multiple times and once I turned off lights the vehicle did two more runs and third time stopped right in front of my house.. I shined light through window and they bailed. ****ing ridiculous too since I just had an attempted break in not to long ago..

**** these people.

That really sucks. I haven't had anything stolen or broken into since I lived on the Big Island, and that sucked so bad. Never anything this bad though, usually it would just be my car getting broken into and I could usually pick my stuff back up at the pawn shop a little while later. Friend of mine had a weird thing happen last year though when he was just at home in his front yard and this guy pulled up in a truck and got out with a huge machete and just started going through his stuff. He got his wife and kid into a back room before the guy started going crazy and busted out the front window and stuff, took ipads and laptops and such and then went house to house in this manner until someone finally shot him (my friend is not allowed to have guns otherwise he would have). Fun times. I know mine is coming, and I have been hearing about this sort of thing more and more. My wife just ran down a kid who stole her bike out of our back yard while she was home. I am sure it will happen before too long. Bummer.

Did you report that to the police again too, after the last incident? Freaked me out not too long ago, I was at my parents house feeding their cat while they were away and a big delivery truck kept driving by and looking at the house. I was thinking, they must have been watching the house and happened to show up when I was there... Turned out to be just a delivery truck hat was lost.

i don't understand why people are looking to break into houses when someone is actually in it. Are they looking to for a potential gun fight? a lot of people are taking matters to their own hands. If they happen break into my place when im in the house, im pretty sure they won't be walking out or with anything in their hands..
