Actually, there are quite a few places you can fly off a cliff on hwy 9, you probably don't notice due to the folliage.
You don't want to be speeding on 9 in the residential areas.
The tickets are harsh, and you might kill yourself or someone.
On the northern end there is less traffic but more turns.
It is fun for a "spirited" drive but not the kind of place where you can blaze up the roads and be just risking your own hide.
I've seen quite a few accidents on the road. Most aren't fatal.
However, most were driving near the speed limit.

There is a nice banked turn south of Saratoga a bit that the car in front of me screwed up on once.
He spun out after the main part of the turn and somehow only went in the other lane during the first part of his spin.
There were cars coming the other way, there were speeding motorcycles behind me.
After being behind him for a bit, I got the feeling he didn't know what he was doing, so I was hanging back on the crazier turns.
Good thing cause he really blew it.
He came to a nice stop facing me head on with me bearing down on him with brakes locked.
The look on his face was sheer terror.
After I stopped(about 1.5 feet away), I was ready for the rear impact of a motorcycle, but the guy was good and had been on the brakes right away, so he just pulled up alongside and stopped.
I just shook my head and told the driver to back up to the turnout conveniently locate just a ways down the road to recover and not to drive until he couldn't hear his heartbeat in his head anymore.
Then we all drove on.

I have also seen a motorcyclist nearly die or go down avoiding a big deer that jumped out within 20 ft of him at night.
He swerved way left towards the cliff face(good plan) and then barely recovered with a little sparking if his bike on the ground. Had he hit the deer he would have been dead. Had he gone down, his bike would have gone off the cliff with him behind. He was lucky, especially since I was near enough to see him and had a cell phone so I could have called in a rescue, otherwise going off a cliff at night can mean a long wait before anyone notices.

It is about that time now where the spring deer are growing up and heading out and about more.

Also remember, on blind curves you may have a great line on your outside turn and then someone coming the other way fishes a little or wanders and you have to correct, but you are on the edge, so your correction may not even be possible.
This never happens on a track since everyone is going the same way.

Be careful out there.

the fog isn't that bad right now. I was there last weekend around 12:30. There weren't to many other cars on the road then but i was suprised with the amount of cops. While going up we passed this sheriff jeep car, he didn't do anything we weren't going slow... Then we decided to take it slow down and right at the very bottum was a cop car off to the side of the road.

i was just up there. the weather is just absolutely gorgeous. couldn't get any better. the handling of my car, on the other hand, could use some help.

didn't see any pork products on page mill, skyline, or 9. in fact, i think a miracle happened because more than one car pulled over to let me pass!!!! un-****ing-believable. but there was one guy in a chevy half ton pickup who was extremely insane and refused to let me travel at any speed other than slow-as-*****. i don't think he was very happy when i blew his doors off with my left hand telling him he's number one. what a tool. anyway, great drive, not too many cars, and a good time was had by all. laters.

yea i hate it when you get stuck behind someone. Even though we are sorta braking the law, if they are gonna go slow at least pull over whenver you have the chance. On hamilton a while back i went with my sisters bf during the day. On the way down we were going at it pretty hard until we came along this stupid camaro. From about the 1/2 way point till almost near the bottum this guy would take each turn insanely slow then whenever he had a little strait would floor it. And this was a v6 camaro with flowmaster exhaust, he thought his car was badass. Finally we pass him on an open spot but i hate people like that.
