Don't forget this either. It is against Visa and MC terms of service to charge a service charge or require a minimum purchase amount to use the cards. What does this mean? This means that you're not paying more to use your card, your paying less to use cash

 

Yeah, that's the loophole. It's not more for credit card, you get a "cash discount"

 

Not unless its explicitly advertised that way and calculated on your receipt as a discount (e.g. $4.99/gal - 3% cash discount = 4.84/gal). Otherwise its still in violation of their rules (though good luck getting much done about it staring at an automated pump )

 

I haven't read the terms of service stuff, but I think as long as they don't call it any type of "fee" to use credit cards, such as a convenience fee, then it's all good. Although, like you said, argue with the automated pump all you want, it's still gonna charge you more for the credit card .

 

Most of the long haul Deisel stops have been doing this for ages, typically I'll get a $0.05 cheaper gallon if I pay cash. Problem with it is if your towing to LA or somewhere your carrying like $400 in cash to pay for your round trip gas.
