That question is hard to answer, because now I'm thinking about what the server is going to run, what my desktop is running (I switch between Windows and Linux, current flavor is Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon 32bit, because 64bit architecture does not have flash support) and I'm not an artist or a pro at video editing so I don't really have a use for running Mac OSX, mobile runs Windows 5x, cause it was a free phone. Also, do I get one server or multiple servers? LOL
It really depends, but that's the short version of my answer.

This is true, however personal preference and familiarity is a HUGE factor. There are very few times when I have heard an OS argument where the points were 100% performance or application oriented.
My favs: server: CentOS, because of price, my experience with such and it's likeness to RH. Mobile meaning laptop, Win and Mac but I am finding myself using Ubuntu a lot more. Desktop: probably Win again as I am familiar with it and if I am using a terminal to control servers, it honestly does not matter.
I use Windows because it is what I am most familiar with and I do very little server work. Most of my background has been with companies that use Win servers and the most recent that centralize on CentOS, as I said I do very little server work. Mostly I am using SecureCRT to connect to servers and network gear. I view my lack of Linux prowess as my biggest weak point, and try to improve my skills and abilities every day. For example, today I set up 4 Ubuntu/Kubuntu laptops on our VPN w/ client and such which is really a simple task, but touches file management, vi work, file locales and etc. The more I use Linux and the terminal on my Mac, the more I see the power...
If I could afford the pay cut, I would love to do a year in a job like this just for the experience and knowledge/familiarity it would bring.
