Help Wanted: OS X/Linux/WinXP/Network helpdesk person in San Mateo...

I work for a company in San Mateo that is looking for a Junior Helpdesk person to help out with the day to day stuff that bogs me down from doing my normal job.
The ideal person is familiar with windowsXP, Mac OS X 10.4/5, and Linux. Solaris 10 is a plus.
Basic network trouble shooting is required. There is lots of opportunity to learn new things, be challenged, and be part of a fast growing successful startup.

The company is located in San Mateo, CA. near Norfolk & Hillsdale.

Please email me at mattsnow-@t-G m a i l-dot.com with your resume if you're interested.

Seems like it's hard to find people right now. We (www.dash.net) have been looking for a couple people too. Good luck with your search!

depends on experience. this is a more junior postion, basically desktop support. printing not working, user permissions, setting up new hire laptops, account maintenance.

I am looking for someone that wants to do unix/linux work as well. We will not be doing much windows stuff other than a basic, basic active directory setup and maybe exchange in 6 months to a year.

Honestly it sounds like just the thing for someone who is younger, has a good basic foundation of skills built and wants to get into IT. Linux knowledge is a must...

Hmm. Well we are looking for more of a senior level person so maybe they are a little harder to find.

My company has had a hard time finding "quality" people too.
It's amazing how many people apply and look good on paper, but can't answer a single interview question.

that's basically it. I am not really looking for someone looking to be manager or director.

Yep. we've seen the same exact problem. I'm going back to asking more real world questions in interview process/phone screen. it helps weed out some of the BS'ing.

This is SUCH a pain in the ***... I have been interviewing people for a while now at a previous company, and now here. What I have been doing is asking a few tech questions, however presented in scenarios where I have been through or have first-hand knowledge of how the issue was resolved. There is often not a "right" answer, but you get a better gauge of whether or not you like this person's communication style, troubleshooting methodology and the best part - what they do when they are in a situation they don't expect.

These days, I am looking more for whether or not I can work with this person than whether or not they can regurgitate answers to questions... Basically what you know now is important, but not nearly as important as what you are willing to know.
