help with ongoing problem

So a few months back i got my first cel light since owning the subie. It was P0457 some evap leak. This happened when i came back from college for a three day weekend. I asked my dad if he could take it to a shop that i knew and see if that would do it. THey told my dad that cuz my car was lowered these things happen and they needed to clean the black box out in the back. And the light was off for a while, but the next time i drove the car and filled up gas, the first time the gas was filled after coming from the shop, the light popped up again. Now this was winter break and my family and i went on vacation so i could not address the problem. But every time i tried to reflash the ecu the light would remain off till the next time i refueled. I finally decided that this spring break id address the problem. I took it up to gst where greg and mike just showed me it was a fuel line that had came off. Well after feeling retarded for all that i started to drive back. On the way back the cel light went on again so i took it back to gst to see wat it could be. Oh the code was P0442 another evap related code. SO mike and greg, were helpful once agian suggesting that it could be the gasket that is between the fuel pump and the gas tank. I just finished replacing this, and reflashing the ecu and the cel light still remains. I just drove to get gas but its not very far maybe a mile total. Now my question is should i give it more time to see if the light goes away? or should i take it to a shop or if anyone has any feedback on wat it could be that would be great
thanks
vijay

I had that problem for a couple of years and in the end it wound up being a harness fault, cost me $300 to diagnose and another hundred or two to fix.

I think it was the 3rd dealership I took it to that finally did the dirty work of getting to the bottom of it.

Ive been having this cel also, car smells like fuel.....happened after my turbo and fuel pump upgrade. I need to get it taken care of....im probably losing brain cells from inhaling the fumes.

Type that cel code into a search on nasioc, there are lots of posts...maybe it will help.

check to see if your gas cap is bad. a leaking gas cap might be causing your CEL

when you guys replaced the fuel pump did you use a NEW gasket? that gasket might look perfectly fine when you take it off, but it can and probably will degrade if re-used. i went through that with my wrx a few years ago. fuel pump was swapped, everything seemed fine for a day or so then it started to stink like gas and throw a CEL. the gasket looked all chewed up when we replaced it.

yea the gasket i replaced looked kinda worn but i dunno when the cel light does come on do u need to give it some time like driving wise before it goes away? and does this still hold true when you reflash the ecu.

Best thing to do is pull the code.

seriously, change the gasket. it's $7 and about an hour of your time if you do it yourself. it will fix the problem.
