first of all hello to all you guys. ive been looking at the forums, and recently registered.anyways...
So im in california and im planning on buying an 06 wrx in las vegas, nevada. its on an auction, and i havent been able to request more pics and specifically to check if its california certified.
Is there a way i can find this out? maybe with the vin number?

It's tuned for 93 octane most likely (If it's even tuned), a carfax isn't going to tell you **** about an STI. It's most likely been modded and the owner isn't going to admit it even if it was. Hell I bought a car that was in a severe accident that had a clean title somehow! The whole front end had been replaced! I didn't even find out till I had my own accident and even after my accident it's STILL a clean title and doesn't show anything on carfax.
It should be able to pass smog in CA generally as long as it has all of the stock exhaust and nothing extremely modified under the hood. The primary things to worry about are going to be; how it is Tuned and previous undisclosed damage. Make sure you check the paint on the underframe, have a mechanic inspect the car and press the owner for more information before you take delivery.

Shows how out of touch I am, last time I was in Vegas there was still a couple places that had 93 around :X Thanks for correcting me Buzzword.
That's a Front mount intercooler, and obviously you said the exhaust has been modified. If that's running a stock tune it's a bomb waiting to go off.

It has a front mount inter-cooler, blow off valve, aftermarket exhaust.... until you get some more info I'd stay the hell away from this car honestly. People that have no performance knowledge buy these things to sell at auctions saying it runs perfectly. I'm sure if you asked, the seller would have no idea what any aforementioned parts are or what they do.

Oh and I found it difficult to get a car registered to California from Nevada. Was going to take me months to transfer and process all the DMV paperwork. Buy a local car man, every Subaru I've seen from Reno etc is a complete bucket.

There are tons of wrxes available locally. You most likely won't even be able to test drive that one from the auction. I've seen alot of cars get dumped into auctions because they have drivability problems that only surface on an extended test drive. Not to mention most auctions that admit the public aren't even that great of a deal. Most people get worked up when they see a sporty/flashy car and end up bidding close to retail, especially when you factor in the auction house fees.
