Car Info: 2011 STi
Hello everybody,
I am having some questions in mind on what are my rights regarding a newly purchase car.
Here is my story.
I just bought a new 2011 STi from a dealership (which I choose not to mention).
Yesterday, I was driving from a stoplight, shift on 1st gear, then in the middle of the turn was about to turn on 2nd but the shifter does not want to "go in" gear. I tried shifting back to 1st back no luck either. I tried to roll to a safe spot and since I can't put my shifter on any gear (while engine is running).
Make the story short, my car is back at the dealership and earlier this morning they still can not shift my car. After pushing it on their service garage... magically, now it is shifting back to gears. They have test drove and everything looks great.
My concern is... what are my rights? and i'm also worried if i have a "lemon" car...
Help!

I had a similar situation with my 11 wrx w/ the Sti short throw shifter. They claimed they "lubed" it and it seems to work flawlessly now. If you are really worried about it being a lemon;
A) it takes more than a bad shifter to be declared a lemon. If anything the shifter could be replaced under warranty.
B) consult a lemon law attorney and they will tell you exactly what you need to know or you couldjust google it.

Manhands.
Thank you for your input/s.
They (dealership) are actually leaning towards the short throw shifter. They said that this is the "first" time they had this issue.
Let's wait and see on what they would find and if they would "lube" this short throw shifter as well...
I just feel so bad that I have to go through this from a brand new car...
I'm glad they fixed your car...

Well, if you want to know what the law details:
http://ag.ca.gov/consumers/general/lemon.php
but I think Manhands got it right, it will likely be much more than a shifter to warrant a lemon. Sometimes, parts get through that are not up to spec. As long as the dealership is willing to work with you to figure out this problem, other than the headache, you should come out fine in the end.

kyle16,
Thanks for the link. I am trying to work with them but they have called me yesterday and said that the car is running fine. I am just worried for my safety knowing the fact that it is not the short throw that caused this.
I just do not feel safe driving the car again without them checking the internal of my clutch...
again.. thank you all for your inputs... (keep them coming)

Another thing you should do is write down everything that happened, how it happened, when it happened if this occurs again. Make sure you get as much written documentation as possible.

Documentation is KEY in anything related to your car; ask questions, let the service rep SEE you documenting the conversation(s) that you have.
