Help my power band dilemna!! (Need advice)
First off, heres the power mods on my car.
VF34, WBR FMIC, pink injectors, catless turbo back/uppipe, other supporting mods
The thing is I HATE the lag, it's not too streetable when your car pulls like a geo before 4k then takes off like a beast. So I need advice on that to do, these are the main options that I'm contemplating.
#1.
Get a big TMIC and EWG. My car still lagged when I had a TMIC but not too bad.
#2 Get my TD04 PnP by deadbolt and get some coatings and possibly an EWG.
I love the way the car pulled at stage 2, but of course didn't make quite the same power. You know theres a few of those idiots who try to max out their TD04, I could be one of them.
#3 STi 2.5 Shortblock. This would be great, but also would cost a lot more money and would probably take awhile as I need to sell the FMIC and save a bit more money. BTW, with the current setup im at 258hp and 236tq on GST's dyno with a small boost look somewhere.
So let me know what you guys think or if you have any other suggestions.

its tuff to say.....It all depends on how much you have to spend... 2.5 block would be nice.... and I have a buddy that had his td04 modified and put down 240ish to the wheels (with a pro tune and other little mods).... Like i said its all in the wallet...sorry to not be dead set on a solution , but i'm sure someone will give you "this is what I would do" idea. best of luck buddy

Ya I wish I could afford a 2.5 block...well I guess I could, but I put away money for when my tranny blows =P. If I could make close to what I did with my vf34 before the fmic with a TD04 I would be very happy. I also dont wanna dump money into an EWG and putting that on the vf34 and still not be happy. Ug, I need to just flip a coin or somethin.

I'm running AP1.
I guess other turbos could be an option although it would be a hassle. What other turbo would there to even consider though if I don't want lag? All That seems plausible is 16g or vf39 which are both very similar to the 34.

i have the same set up as you minus the front mount and have the 2.5 and the lag is really not that bad. i think i reach full boost between 2800-3000 rpm. you can get a stock 2.5 for like $1900 or get one with decent internals for $2700 shipped from cobb with a custom head gasket for the 2.0 heads. but you would have to tune it again.

wrxguy- Was that on a mustang? How did your power curve look? And lols on the isht torque, thats to be expected on the 2.0l =P
Snicklous- I know that I would love the 2.5 block, but it's just a lot of money. I'm still gunna keep my eye out for one used. I thought I found one, but a minor scratch on the cylinder wall scared me.
Chubs- Definitely not a cheaper alternative to the 2.5l.

If you decide to do the motor swap, get a complete 2.5L out of an STi. Don't go the hybrid route, you'll be sorry in the end.
Think about a TD05-16g, larger hot side helps the spool, P&P your manifold, BPM or engine x-over pipe, 3port boost solenoid(great for spool) upgrade your wastegate spring. Pull off the BOV. TMIC. When the tranny goes, RA gearset. This changes the entire power delivery, you'll be happy you spool a 4K

you want faster spool up get a hallman mbc those things are great. I have a
td05h-20g on my car and I have full boost by 3600-3800-rpms. But if you install it you will need to get ur car retuned to be safe.

Wow, you made some damn good numbers there. I don't see why you think that a EWG wouldn't yield more power. Most people with 34's make around 10-20 with it.
Ipozestu- Whats wrong with the hybrid route? Also, I'm definitely going to get RA gears or a 6spd If I find a good deal. I can't wait for the tranny though, that will be very rewarding. =)
