Oatmeal in the morning with a half banana and a few blueberries toss in. No butter. No milk. Lunch is a sandwich with whole wheat bread and no spreads of any kinds. Dinner. Grilled chicken and salad. Don't eat grains that much these days.

Yet I weight 245 pounds... why? Because I went from being an athlete to a desk jockey. I can loose some weight with SUPER strict diets. But I plateau in the the 230's. I can't get below that without working out.

Combo my current eating with a bow flex and a couple days on a bike. Bam.

Good for gomer for doing something about it before it's too late. But yeah... drinking less will certainly help you buddy. LOL!
who cares if it's organic. you're probably still eating too much. it's all about calories in vs calories out. calculate your basal metabolic rate, factor in your activity and go from there. i eat a burrito everyday and i am still managing to lose weight. they say a 500 calorie deficit is the best for fat loss while retaining muscle. of course everyone is different and this rule doesn't apply to everyone.

congrats jeremy on the new whips. don't let them collect too much dust

indeed diet is a big deal
i ride both road and fixed gear bikes and truthfully i have lost more weight on my fixed gear just for the fact that it makes you have to work harder, but the main thing is your results depends on how much work you put into it. best of luck man

I seriously would not consider organic unless you're doing something like a body cleanse diet with nuts and seeds and fruits.

I've heard that some organic foods have more calories than non-organic foods due to the fact they are more "wholesome"

(Don't quote me on this, some hippy at trader joes in santa cruz said this)

That was not my point. And I guarantee you my calorie count is far lower than a lot of "healthy" eaters. I have a **** metabolism.

But yes, you're right. Organic is a catch phrase. It's hot. Everyone uses it. And now "gluten free" is the new catch phrase. People are naive. They see organic gluten free etc and they assume it's healthy. Not always the case.

I work in Ag. I deal with produce and healthy foods all day every day. You literally can't walk in to a store and not see a product I didn't have a hand in designing. Hell I bought carrots the other day that had a package I did about 5 years ago.

Nothing changes. Read the labels and be aware of what you're eating. Crap is crap but sometimes natural crap is better than nuclear crap.

We do organic on mainly the key stuff. Fruits. Veggies. We have chickens and our chicken feed is organic. Milk.. we buy the expensive hippy isht. I have a 2 year old and now is the time to teach her healthy eating habits.

For me... I'm not as strict. I mainly just look to eat as healthy as I can. If I'm eating out for the most part I choose deli's over Carl's Jr. Tea over soda. Stuff like that.

To get the organic tag you only have to meet certain criteria and for some products it's kind of pointless. Like energy drinks. Is drinking organic sugar crack better than non organic sugar crack. Probably not.

Yeah for side track. J got his bikes. Now we can talk health and nutrition. LOL!

If you are serious about loosing weight and have a smart phone there are many apps out that can help. I used myfitnesspal, I Started at 275-280 (jan 1st 2012) and got down to 231 where i now hover cause i took a break from the gym and started eating foods that have sugar (stay away from sugar/sweets as much as you can). while i know the app didn't cause my weight loss it did help me track what i ate and my exercise.
You put in your current weight, a goal weight and it will calculate what your daily caloric intake should be. you input what you eat (it has a database full of foods nutritional information, you can even scan the bar code of things and it will input the nutritional info) it tallies up it all up and keeps a running total.
Exercise is key tho. My goal is to get the spare tire as low-profile as possible since i seem to store all my weight in my mid section, and then go after increasing muscle mass.

I have that ap. It's rad. I just need to be better about using it.

Very helpful to try to keep a level calorie intake. I tend to dip too low. I don't eat enough. I was 265 December 2011 and I was 230 a couple weeks ago. Right around 237 right now. Had a rough week. Damn 5 guys and a road trip.
