yeah the car was locked.
They found the keys in the house, unlocked it, slipped in in neutral and backed it quietly out of the garage. They also grabbed some other things including a purse, and my iphone. They even made some calls on the phone.
I live near close to the Fremont / Union City Border on Mission.

Wow, thats great news! Finally, a benefit to having these cars stand out as much as they do! Maybe now its time to get some exhaust, that way, if it were to happen again, you might wake up this time! People sure do have a lot of nerve, to enter into someone else's home, find the car keys, and then steal a car like that. I hope they fry em!

Here is a thought. What if you car got stolen, but was recovered a few days later. As you go to get the car, the police officer mentions that your intake doesn't have a CARB sticker, your exhaust looks modified, and your windows are illegally tinted, and then sends your A$$ to the ref. Wonder if that has ever happened?!?!

Hopefully they slip up because they'll get breaking and entering along with grand theft and grand theft auto.

Hi Everyone. Thanks for your support. We got really lucky - and most importantly we are safe. Wife was a little shaken up emotionally, but better now.
Luckily, the police found the car about an hour after it was stolen with no damage. Though I do think he smoked a cigarette in my car. The thieves seemed to be more immediately interested in the other stuff they stole- purse and backpack contents spread throughout the car. These guys parked it at a gas station and a cop thought something was odd - and he was right. I saw one guy they apprehended and I certainly did not know him. I suspect they saw my car in a parking lot and followed me home.
To be honest, my alarm is stock and I got REALLY lucky. I only think they responded so aggresively because this was a B+E. Oh, and my phone was active and the police have the details. It is quite shocking how dumb these people are....
My car is only lightly modded, but one of the officers started to ask me about the car. I thought scoping me for mods, but he turned out to be cool. Even told me about the mods he had on his "race-only" mustang.
Certainly a +1 for UC and Hayward police on this one.
