Help convincing parents of WRX vs 2.5rs

I, like yourself, wanted the WRX cuz my old car was already sold off. My dad was willing to buy me a new car, but his budget was $20,000 firm. Well, my dad and I had several terrible weekends back to back to back, fighting each other about what to get. I admit, I sometimes acted all spoiled, but i figured this was gonna be the car I drive and "I ain't drivin' no Toyota echo (what he wanted to get me at first)." Anyway, we somehow make it to the Subie dealer. They had a couple of WRXs on the floor but they were marked up to $29,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Long story short, I ended up w/ a 2.5RS, which came out to $21,6xx anyway. Just ignore the sticker prices at the dealer, tell your dad this: "the 2.5RS will come out to $22,000 anyway, and you could get a WRX for pocket change more (which is true)." I'm pretty mad about my RS right now.....knowing i could've had a WRX.
Oh, and my car HAD to be new according to my dad, cuz of the warranty. On top of that, I HAD to promise my dad I won't get a motorcycle (i have my license) since he was "getting me the 2.5....."
Good luck and don't give up.

My old car was MY car. I WANTED to keep it but my dad sold it to a used car dealer friend of his, AGAINST my wishes. Any other dealer, i'm guessing, wouldn't have bought MY car from my DAD w/o me. This is why my dad was going to buy me a new car. I didn't go around *****ing about "dad can you buy me this?? why not??" You'd be pretty pissed too if your parents sold off your car while they told you "it's just at the dealer for an inspection."
So anyway, my car was already sold off, I'm pretty upset, and I need a car....next thing I know, he's trying to get me an Echo.....my old car (a 95) was worth nearly the same as those, brand new. I was beyond frustrated and was going to get a Honda CBR600 on my own....then my dad steps in and tells me if I get an Impreza I have to promise not to get the Honda. I agreed because even though I like riding, a car just makes more sense than a bike, day-to-day.
OK, now that I HAVE an RS, it irks me that the WRX went for nearly the same price. Get my train of thought??

I understand
I got'cha... I got my 02 RS for $13,800. If I had to pay anything more than 16 for it, I'd definitly would have gotten a WRX. BUt man.... an RS for 14,000:??? I couldn't let that go...

Sorry dude, you aren't acting, you are spoiled!, Since He was paying for the car, you should have accepted what he was willing to get, and if you didn't like it, you should have said no thanks. Your "irked" cause daddy bought you an RS and you didn't get your precious WRX, like I said, spoiled, yeah I get your train of thought......sheesh
Hmmm this is interesting, since you say the car was yours, there is no way he could have sold it, unless You let him, when you sell a car, you (as the owner) need to sign the title to complete the sale. So Im guessing the car was actually daddy's and he gave it to you. If you had the money to by a bike, and then felt you really needed a car instead, you could have picked up a car with the same money. Also if you had that money, why not just put it towards the difference in price between the RS and WRX? Especialy since you say there was So Little difference in price......

didn't i tell you my dad sold it to a FRIEND's car shop because NO ONE ELSE WOULD BUY IT w/ ME the owner. I never asked for a WRX from the beginning. It escalated to that point because my car was already gone, and my dad was going to have to buy me a replacement because I didn't have the $$ to buy a CAR since I didn't know I'd have to buy one. the $$$ i had for the CBR (F3) is a little shy of $4,000, which would be a struggling down for the bike, w/ title, fees, and insurance and then payments after that. anyway, when we found the 2.5RS, it was a tad shy of $20,000. my dad said he'd pay up to $20,000, so I wasn't going to argue w/ him then. I'd pay the rest, that went over $20k. I was quite unfamiliar w/ Imprezas and their pricing. I said I am mad NOW because If I would have Known THEN how much everyone else paid for their WRXs, I would've for sure gotten one, instead of the 2.5RS. and it doesn't help that i got smoked by a WRX 2 nights ago. If you go back to search for my first posts here and elsewhere, I introduced myself as a happy 2.5RS'er.

And if you were a happy 2.5 owner then, there is no reason Now to not be happy with it just cause your dad got shafted on the price of the 2.5 and because you got smoked by a WRX in a Street Race, that you shouldn't be involved in to begin with.....
Again kid, you prove you are indeed spoiled
And for the record, there a plenty of nice cars YOU could have bought with "a little shy of $4000.00" of YOUR own money

i.e Acura RSX-Type S $22,500
if your so worried about speed drop in a damn turbo and be just as quick as a wrx, all the wrx is, is a 2.5 with a turbo and better interior. BTW the wrx is heavier, get a nice tx11 custom like my friend, hes got a 2.5rs with a turbo and dynos at 250 and he blows the doors off everyday of the week and twice on sunday,
cant wait for that stage 4 upgrade
and yes they are right you are spoiled i bet half of us here are still not even half way through our own finance, right?
back to the point, lets help this kid convince his parents..

*bleh* ok, looking back at what i posted previously, i can see how you might interpret what i said to coming out as me being spoiled. I don't have the energy to dig up papers and explain my situation; i get the feeling you guys wouldn't care anyway (i wouldn't care if i was listeing to someone explain it). what i DID want to say from the beginning was: yes, my dad ended up getting me a 2.5RS because I couldn't pay for a car, and I realize how lucky I am for that much; believe me, I was ready to get into an old S13 or if i found one, an AE86 (somewhat of a fantasy car for me for a while). However, I have driving chores to take care of in my family and he felt that a car older than 6 or so yrs would be full of broken stuff. He (dad) wanted a full factory warranty (read: new car), I couldn't have cared less if it was 5, 10 years old, as long as I had the feeling I could manage to fix common parts on my own. Anyway, as long as I had to drive the rest of my family places everyday (i drive 100+miles a day, everyday), he wasn't gonna let me get an as-is car at Joe Shmoe's yard for $4,000, OR a bike for that matter. And think about it...having the opportunity to be seated in a car w/ 4 miles off the lot (thats paid for by someone) as opposed to most any car in the $4,000 range sounds good to almost anyone, yah? (OK, whack me again for being spoiled).....due to family obligations, my dad had me promise my family that I wouldn't get a bike as long as I got the car.
Anyway, my WRX envy came AFTER I got my 2.5RS. It simply stemmed from coming in contact with "the next best thing." Pretty much everybody does it: don't tell me you weren't jealous of the kid in class who always had the latest Jordans on their feet, etc etc. I'm just sitting here wondering about all the imaginations you guys must have in your head that I'm living like some princess in a castle, decked out in nice clothes and shoes or something.
BpWRX03: yeah, turboing the 2.5RS is an idea I've tinkered w/ a bit. care to tell me more on your friend's car?

Is your dad aware of the fact that many dealerships offer full warranties for many of their used cars?
Anyway, that's in the past for you. One path you have has been mentioned, and it could yield great performance: strapping on a turbo an a FMIC to that 2.5. It's a very capable engine, and you could try to get STi parts as they are available (since both are 2.5 liters). Invest some money in a clutch-type LSD. Get a big-brake kit. You could build a very performance-oriented car out of a 2.5. Plus with the stock hood, it could be a sleeper since the average WRX driver won't suspect that it's a race-prepped Impreza (since he'll think you'd be the Subaru equivalent of a guy in a Civic DX who puts on all Type R stickers and stuff while only sporting an intake).
But wouldn't adding a turbo void the warranty?

heres the deal on subaru and most other dealerships, you may hear adding a turbo and intake or even a shift **** will viod your warrenty. when somehting brakes on your car they will look for the smallest thing possible to void your warrenty so you would have to pay. Like me i have a WRX, AEM cold air intake, headers, exhust, BOV, turbo timer, and many other lil things, read your warenty carefully, if u think slapping on a Turbo on your 2.5 will void your warrenty? WRONG! The dealer is not allowed to void your warenty with out prooving that that aftermarket item broke your car.
For example, If something happens to your transmission << which is under warrenty, if you drive stick you know driver error
and ware and tare is covered for the first 50K miles, ok say your car is all stock. And you decided you wanted to put in a nice AEM or INJEN short ram, and say something happens to your transmission, they probly gonna say the INTAKE messed up the tranny, NOPE they cant do they they are not aloud to void your warrenty just because you have an intake, they have to PROOOOOOOVE that that after market part messed up the transmission, if they cant which they wont, they your good to go,
and yes my friends 2.5rs its a 2002, he got it in july, after he got it he slapped on a Custom BIG a$$ TX11, upraged the rings, rods, shafts, coils, and gears.. yes he dynos around 250 hes got a rebuilt level 10 tranny witch runs smooth, exhuast, down pipe, up pipe, and all that bs, AND HIS CAR LOOKS LIKE A STOCK RS people are fooled, that one day some kid was talkin trash in an rsx type s, he rumbled past him like there was no tomorrow, the kid was like i thought it was a slow a$$ stock RS, well it wasnt
now since my car isnt stock anymore, he keeps up, when we race hes alwayz right next to me and not lettin go, the RS modded is no joke man, thats all the WRX is, if you put a WRX turbo, with some adjustments, would beat the wrx by a little, since its lighter and gets more HP/perliter when turboed because of the 2.5 capassity. think bout to talk to your dealer, we did before we slapped his turbo on, and if anything ever goes wrong with his car, the dealer will also fix it for us, just like my wrx still has its valid warrenty.
What you need to do is look through your owners manual and through the warrenty booklet, and if you have any questions contact subaru directly.
i feel like im on jerry springer,..
final thoughts after this short break...
