Unhappy Help CEL

Hey everybody-
Ok really strange... last night my car cracked out. I was at a stop light and suddenly my RPM's jumped to 2,000 rpm and idled there for a second or two before the car threw a CEL. Have any of you guys had this happen to you? also I disconnected the battery and restrated the car to check the CEL this morning and the CEL is gone. Can anybody shed some light on this problem.

thanks
kevin

when you disconnected the battery it reset the ECU, that's why your CEL is gone. Also, in doing so you erased the CEL code that was thrown, and is basically impossible to read what went wrong now.

Until that code gets thrown again. Problems do not just disappear into thin air, if it was a serious problem it will reoccur again. When that happens hook an OBDII reader up to it and you will see exacitally what it is.

Yeah, don't reset, it could've been serious or a sign of something serious or it could have been nothing - keep your cell until you can have it read. With the code then you'll have a clue as to what the car/ecu was doing, or thought it was doing.

I will add that my car started idling really badly, reving to 2000 rpms etc, but no CEL and an ECU reset made it all go away.

Thanks guys! Lets just hope it was something minor, and if something is wrong I hope the CEL comes back so I can get it read!

Haha, let's hope that the CEL doesn't come back and everything goes back to normal . Also, if you're local to Dublin/San Ramon VISHNU pulls CELs for free

If something was wrong even though I reset the ECU shouldn't the car throw a CEL? I drove the car last night, pretty hard, and no light, maybe a gremlin? =)
