Yup, you read correctly. Just bought a 2012 Impreza. Accidentaly drained the CVT fluid, not the engine oil. So dumb. So, so dumb. Anyway, I can't find anything on the net for 2012 impreza specifically. Just a 2012 outback. Any help? Thanks all.

Also, do I need to put Subaru specific CVT oil in it?

 

Googled it. Looks like I have to take it to the dealer to fix, as it is very complicated. Bummer.

 

What is so complicated about it? Can't you just refill it yourself? Or is it one of those sealed transmission deals where you do need a stealership?

And something something wouldn't have this problem with a manual something something

Damn! It's a pain in the *** process...gotta get the car up above you, get the trans up to temperature, have to keep it running while you are underneath filling with a pump... it's lame. Good luck.

So, the drain plug on that thing is a regular bolt? On the 5MT it's a giant Torx bolt. So big (T70), that it's a PITA just to get the bit.

I kinda feel your pain. I had a roommate who did the same thing to his Kia Soul. I happened to be around and got to help him get out of his dilemma.

 

with CVT you have to take it to the dealership/shop that has a computer for it. We hook it up to your car and it tells us how much to put in, and what temp. Its almost impossible to do it yourself and if not done right, you can mass up your car. Call your local Subaru dealership.

 

What a game. Didn't they use to design cars for easy maintenance?

 

Fixed. Fairfield Subaru was actually pretty cool about it.

So ya, just a regular bolt, that looked alot like the one on my oil pan. And, in the same area that it was on my 06 WRX.

135 bucks later, lesson learned. Luckily, I didnt do any obvious damage to the tranny or transfer cases driving the car up and down the block trying to figure out what I had done wrong. (before I realized that it was the Tranny fluid)

Apparently a few other people had done this, the tech told me.

Still, so dumb. LOL

 

Clearly Subaru has been attending the Ferrari Maintenance School...
