It is inconsiderate to commute in a vehicle that uses twice as much gas as it should. It is incosiderate to hog the fast lane in a vehicle that does not stop or turn as well as the car behind it. You are a DUMB *** if you think having an SUV is safer.
These vehicles have their place, which is not the fast lane of the freeway: towing a boat or hauling a family of 7 are appropriate uses and some owner's fall into this category. However, these vehicles attract people with low self esteem who have to "keep up with the Jones'" in order to feel good about themselves. I will concede your point that these inconsiderate, dumb *** drivers would be driving something else if SUV's weren't in fashion. Incidents like this underline the fact that you don't need to prove you can drive to get a driver's license in this country.

Although I will admit....that, I actually use my Tahoe for real 4 wheeling...yes, that does include rock crawling a bit...but mostly Trails (Sierra Trek was my last adventure) and when you have to thread the needle between a 15 foot high boulder, and a 2 foot diameter Pine tree, on an off-camber trail section without so much as a scratch....thats called an exact science....Aka, SKILLZ.
But for all those BAD SUV drivers out there, that give us GOOD SUV drivers a bad rep.......
and admittedly, MOST of the SUV drivers out there ARE BAD....just not all of 'em.my 3¢

not many SUV owners go anywhere near dirt... a large number don't even touch gravel
that brings other points as well...
like how a large number of SUV owners drive by themselves or have one other passenger....
and then u see geo metro's with 40 people hopping out like a clown car
strange isn't it?
it really depends on the driver tho, just as it has been mentioned a lot...

Again, it just underlines the fact that drivers in this country are not required to prove they can actually drive before they are granted a license.

ask yourself this, is it inconsiderate to have a car that go faster than the speed limit? after all, the faster you go, the more risks you introduce into the equation.
FWIW, here's my SUV:

whoohooo offroad!! *lots of fun*
technically my 240 isn't offroad but its sure as hell a lot of fun to drive around unpaved roads... pseudo-rally style... gravel and the like (sure it makes a mess but thats why i clean my car once in a while... good times!)
police/CHP got cars that can go over the speed limit too.. it just evens the equation... it all depends on the driver ^_~
hey ban SUVs know any good unpaved roads in the local area?

Actually, if you know your truck and have your side view mirrors properly adjusted, it's not that difficult to back up a big truck. The problem is, any jackass can go buy one of these things. Many of these folks only know how to use rear view mirrors and not side view mirrors; nor do they have a very good concept of how large their vehicle is.

all in all.....SUV's are not a good thing to drive every day...they are simply too big for 90% of the parkinglots out there and ppl are morons when it comes to common sense like that. And Yes, the idiots driving them are totally clueless and have no idea as to the height/weight/dimentions of the vehicle they just went down and paid for bcuz they can......F**K THAT.....
My solution to this problem is this.......if a Semi truck driver has to have a Class A license to legally drive a tractor/trailer, AND a person has to have a special motorcycle license to legally drive a rice rocket......WHY THE HELL dont ppl have to have a special license to drive an oversized SUV?!?!?!?! it OBVIOUSLY is NOT like driving your car, even if "your car" IS a land barge like a 72 Lincoln Continental....there is NO comparison......and the Government should implement an SUV/TRUCK license, along with a thorough(sp?) /in depth/rigorous behind-the-wheel CLASS/TEST which will include a few million parking/backing up lessons.
last but not least

Either way, blanket statements, prejudice or not, it's all about knowing the limits of your vehicle. There are gazillions of morons who drive large vehicles that they have no business piloting - they are not dumba55 SUV drivers, they are just morons like any other strain. I just sold my Pathfinder I had since '99, it was a great car. I could carry 20 2U servers at once, pile in 5 people and head to Reno, trapse across nasty terrain without worry and have a little fun at Hollister with the thing. Yeah, not your normal SUV owner, but so what. When someone doesn't know the limits of their vehicle, they shouldn't be driving it whether it's an Escalade or a Metro. If you hit stuff, then.. You are a bad driver whatever you drive.

We're all forgetting thae fact that the damage was a direct result of someone driving an SUV. The minivan they probably should be driving would have hit the WRX's bumber, thereby causing only slight damage to the bumper cover instead of smashing things in.
