Na doesn't bind to water, it's a solvent, water is a solute. It ionizes/dissolves in water as Na+. Na+, K+, Cl-, Ca2+ are common ions in the body that are necessary for a multitude of things. Your renal system uses these concentration gradients to regulate water retention (or excretion) which can affect things like plasma volume. You naturally lose ions through urine in addition to urea, water soluble vitamins, etc. You also lose some through sweat. Gatorade was invented to replenish these ions in addition to adding glucose/sucrose to replenish glycogen/phosphocreatine short-term energy stores.

With everything in the world, there are good levels and bad levels, which are dependent per individual.

Thanks, although threads like this turn into a **** show, and I slowly realize I'm wasting calories typing in these sort of threads. I'm guessing you're in medicine, very smart, or both.

People try to talk about working out, yet they don't even know how to calculate by hand their own energy expenditures. The more I learn about physiology and exercise biology, the more I realize how much wrong information is out there among "trainers."

How dare we post our own workout and diet experiences on here w/o doing math first. Such nerve!

Lighten up Francis.

Thanks for contributing to the thread. Because your workout is the best and it's your way and everyone else is wrong?

OP, do you have any heart conditions? lung conditions?

not sure if you have mention any throughout the thread, but identifying possible KEY limitations is a good start.

Nah no real conditions, but I went to the doc anywho just to check because some relatives had some issues with diabetes and heart issues. Obviously they weren't in shape at all, but just good to know.

If everything seems good to go... Ease into it and eat a little healthier, unless you already are.

The worst thing to do, is sit. Sitting is so destructive to your body.

Even if you go to the gym and "power walk" a couple of miles and lift light weights. It's better than sitting at home.

Sure, that's exactly what's being discussed.

How many of you guys consume whey protein with a dextrose/glucose based drink to facilitate faster absorption?

I did for awhile. The protein is better absorbed with like, what I took, apple juice.

Apple juice is more fructose which gets shunted towards lipogenesis (fat), whereas glucose can go straight to bloodstream if needed. If this is pre or during workout, consume glucose if it all possible. Generally, a pint of water before workout is great to help replace loss of plasma volume due to edema into the muscle tissues. You'll get that back a few hours after workout. After 6-8 weeks, you'll actually have an increased plasma volume.

Yeah.. You're right.
I'm okay with somewhat abusing my body since I'm only 20 haha. But apple juice was just a quick example as I was driving.
Water is key!
