The only thing stopping me from buying is the fact that black friday is a few months around the corner. I bet there will be LED LCD 46-60"TV's with 120hz, built in WiFi for ~ $1000. I've gone this long without HD... could be worth waiting 3 more months to save $500...

It seems like everytime one of these TV threads pop up, people automatically recommend the *best* whatever feature/marketing point they think is relevant. For example, get the highest refresh rate, contrast ratio, LED or whatever marketing parameter is the current thing. (Used to be resolution not very long ago; i.e. TrueHD)

My suggestion is, before you start looking at brands or asking for opinions, please specify what you plan to use the TV for, what is your viewing environment, what are important features to you and your budget. These general considerations will help define the display technology, screen size and brands to narrow down your search.

Then again, if all you're asking for is within the criteria you've already given, then get the largest screen you can afford with features you want and the best reviews for image quality. Any Google, CNET or AVSForum search will give you more technical and accurate info than you can find on a car forum.

At the same time, there may be that deal. The last couple black friday deals have been pretty weak from what I recall.

You called?

Vizio. Hands down. They are making TVs with ridiculous quality now, and STILL so much cheaper. Head over you your nearest Costco, pick a size, and enjoy. It's like that, it's not even funny how huge they are. The pro reviews are in agreement with me, and we (oppo) recommend them all the time.

From Skeptic to Fanboi in 5 years. The only thing that sucks about TVs today is the glare, but they do it to get better contrast numbers for marketing. If you have decent light control, it's not a big deal, and not as bad as plasmas (which I still recommend over LCDs, which still suffer from slow response times of about 3-5ms)

Just got back from Costco and the Vizio's did look nice. Only thing is the styling, not so hot, plus I've always been a Sony man. Almost pulled the trigger on the 55" Sony but they also had a 46" with the same specs for 899.

Costco - Sony 55" Class 1080p 120Hz LED Edge Lit LCD HDTV

This will be my first step into the HD/flat screen world. I've ben rocking my 32" Sony Trinitron tube for the past 15 years
sony use to have a great tv but as of late the picture has gone to **** in less you are looking at an xbr model the picture on this particular model is the worst of the 55" led that i have seen this year the samsung and the vizio blow it out of the water its just to low on the sony model line it is also a little over priced for what you get. the one thing this has going for it self is the internet streaming apps sony has the most in tv industry so there is a lot to chose from just remember that you need to buy the wireless adapter separately

true but that run concerlently with the 2yr you already get with costco we now sell SquareTrade 3yr extened warranty for tvs for $30 (tv's priced under $500), $60(tv's priced $500-$1,000), or $100(tv's priced over $1,000) that will give you 5yrs total Costco - Your search for "squaretrade" produced 3 results.

glad someone said it be for i did if you are looking for the best bang for the buck look no farther the vizio is it no one ells gives you the same stuff for the money the xvt line from them is great back lit led 3d for around $1000 for a 47" or $1500 for a 55" with a comparable picture to samsung and internet streaming with built in wifi the down side there is no youtube, hulu, or blockbuster apps for the xvt line all of which vizio has released for other lines with internet streaming they claim its on the way but that was almost 8 months ago and still nothing yet also right now they are on sale and most stores are out of the 55" and the 47" is running low at most locations as well so it could be hard to find in costco still available online Costco - VIZIO 47" Class 1080p 480Hz SPS LED Backlit LCD HDTV

About eight months ago I bough a Sony KDLEX500. 46 inch LCD 120hz. Best Buy had it for $898 with no interest for 3 years. So far so good. Never had any problems with Sony TVs. Not LED, I know, but also not 3D. 3D is not for me either.

Interesting. Glad I bought a Sony.

I was looking at the quattron set, but I was unsure if paying another $500 for a bit better color was worth it.

as for the internet apps, I will mostly be running Boxee through it so all of the app I need are covered. The TV says that it has wireless built in, does that mean the wireless is not used for apps but some other use?

I wanted the 65" Vizio, but paying 1k less for 5 less inches and non-3D is too much to pass up

The none XBR line of Sonys suffer from yellowing of color. Similar to the green blob issues on the SXRDs. Can't calibrate it out without doing an ISF calbration. Probably hit or miss though and could get lucky.

Samsungs have a nice pixel sharpness quality the Sony used to have about 2-3 years ago, but yes, their boards fry left and right. It's quit sad to see. Also, the ones that have dynamic backlight end up contrast pumping, and that is just annoying. The Sonys and Vizios tend to do it much faster and is not so noticeable.

I like the LGs, but they aren't price competitive against Vizio. I think it's completely worth it to try a vizio out, and make use of Costco's awesome 90 day return policy.

Right on, good to know. Yeah I agree the 55" Sony is a bit overpriced, however, it was right next to another 55" Samsung and they both looked good. Also, how is the video fed to all the TV's? Don't some sets get a distorted video because so many sets need to be fed? Or do they all get individual feeds?

Also, do you know how long the Sony KDL46EX621 will be on sale for (46 LED LCD)? Its got a $150 rebate bringing it to $899 at the Concord store. I plan on getting the adapter and streaming from my router (comcast broadband) and using a PS3 for blue-ray/games. Not doing cable TV or anything else.

5 years ago they were kings. They could do no wrong, and once their 1080p sets came out with major contrast issues, macroblocking issues and reliability issues, well.. they went down the drain. I haven't looked into them recently to be honest, they could have come back, but 2-3 years ago they were 30-40% more expensive than the next guy and utter crap.

Apple is switching to their panels, it's rumored, so, could be something there.
