I just bought an RCA amplified antennae from Frys and it sucks - picked up a whopping three channels (and two were in espanol).
Does anyone have a nice antennae to pick up the major HD broadcasts? Care to share your setup?

AntennaWeb
Go there, enter address and get an idea of how strong of a signal you are are going to receive.
These days, non amplified antennas work great. Stick to those. The best one are the ones that look like an big square grille. The arrow old school ones work well too.
I get about 80% of the ATSC channels on this little guy:

Oh, and amplified antennas use power to boost the ability to increase the gain, but this usually adds noise. This works for analog, a little extra noise is not gonna kill you when you're watching on some 27" CRT. But these are digital signals, noise, esp electrical interference pretty much stops 1s and 0s dead.
I have been using an old rabbit ears and pie plate amplified combo for close to a.decade now for my HDTV needs.
I live with a.clear.view to MT Sutro where a majority of the San Fran bay area transmitters are... I'm about 40 miles of direct line of sight.
The antenna was.like $25...

Most likely your towers should be in the relatively the same direction. Check TV Fool for tower locations.
A directional will likely be fine.
Antenna's Direct DB2 or DB4 are good choices.
If you need an omnidirectional antenna, the RCA ANT800R gets good ratings. This is the one I have.
