I'm looking at the HDR-XR500V or the 520. I think the GPS thing is stupid. I read about it and most of the time it doesn't work. Mostly the difference for me would be between the 120gig 500 or the 240gig 520. I'll probably pick one up at some point soon. I haven't read too many bad reviews about them, but it'd be nice to hear from somebody directly who may have used it for a while.

i got a flip mino and am super happy with it
small and quick to whip out a recording without people knowing and getting all weird about it.
Also has a screw base so you can run it from a tripod or in a roll bar car setup
quality is good and so is sound and the software it comes with makes upload to u tube and facebook a one click job
also great for action stuff like snowboarding and mountain biking

no but you can do it with software cause its not going to be real slowmo unless you get a high speed cam which is retarded expensive

the answer to your question was in the post you replied to.

Unless you get a seriously expensive high speed camera, slow-mo will be choppy reconstructions from the frame rate it was recorded at.

i don't deal with commercial equipment but if commercial video works the same as film, which i believe it does, then any slowmo that you do, (unless you use a special high speed cam) will be fake. You can do a better fake slowmo with a post composite software such as Nuke which is called an oflow. Oflow will blend the frames to create inbetweens and you vid will appear to be in slowmo but will lack the propper motion blur and if you push it too far it will start to artifact and become choppy.
I am a layout artist at ILM and deal with cameras and cg cameras all day, if you need any help getting the shot you want let me know I would be glad to help you out.
