Have you been granted a patent?
I've been doing research on patenting and licensing, but I personally do not have the skill or knowledge needed to produce the invention.
I am kind of stuck at this point, and I do not want to get taken advantage of or have my idea "stolen".
What should I do?

i have brought this question up in i-club before, my best advice i got is dont mention it on this forum or any other and contact a patent lawyer if you really wanna keep your idea safe.

I'm definitely not going to say what it is on here. I don't trust anyone. haha
I really want to get this idea rolling though.

^Agreed. If you're going to tell anyone (that isn't your patent lawyer), make sure you have them sign a non-disclosure agreement as well. My father in law is an engine designer and I've even had to sign a few. Good luck.

I have 2 patents I authored but they are owned and were paid for by my employer (who hired the lawyers).
Once you publicly disclose the idea, it's considered in the public domain and you would lose the ability to patent it and risk someone running with your idea. Go contact a patent attorney or something, but don't disclose it here.

I had a design patent when I was a kid. My parents loved the idea that I could come up with such a great idea while being as high as a kite (this is when my best ideas come to me). Get a patent lawyer. They will be able to review your idea, research the idea and suggest which type of patent you should apply for. It's not cheap. Consider what your intentions are for the idea and the solution it provides. Is it one of those things that will solve a problem that everyone has or is it an idea that solves a particular problem. What is your marketing group. There's lots of good ideas, there aren't many of them that solves a problem for the masses.

I've got 3 or 4 and I'll tell you the same thing everyone else has- get a lawyer.
They'll help you write up the application and they should help you search for previous patents where "prior art" can either support or might conflict with yours.
