Has HP ever made a product that WASN'T trash?
Actually - HP's Desktops are so-so, but their laserjet's are unstoppable. If you want to get a low cost per page, get a LaserJet. Their HP LaserJet 1100. Works great. I've only had one Brother printer, it was a little one for home offices and it sucked ***.

I have had NO trouble with HP printers. I use and support quite a few of them. Their other products (cameras, PC's, etc.) on the other hand... *shudder*

I don't like HP either. I've built a bunch of computers, so I normally just build what I want instead of buying a complete computer because you can get what you want for cheaper. I hate the way HP and some others will combine hardware devices like the modem and sound card or the video card into the mother board. That is annoying. I hate their printers either. I had two in college and they both broke after the warranty was up. I got a Lexmark after that and never had a problem with it. I have an Epson photo printer now and it works well. I've never used their digital cameras, though. I don't plan on it.

Compaq sucks too, but only slightly less then HP (in fact, the Compaq/HP iPaq is probably the only product from them that I like).

The only thing HP does well is make laser printers. I support about 25 at work and they just chug along printing tens of thousands of pages EACH per year.
If you want a reliable, fast printer for home use and don't care about color, get an HP LaserJet 1012. Should be about $199 most places and the first time you print you will wonder why you ever bothered with piece of crap inkjet printers.

I bought a Canon S750 and it outlasted my bro's HP printer. Bits and pieces broke off his printer, ink consumption was poor, and printing quality wasn't much to jump up and down for. Been through 2 Canon bubble jet printers, one is still chugging along and now my bro uses my printer as well. First one lasted... hmm... 8 years or so. Now that's longevity for a computer peripheral.

Canon makes one of the best printers, but it costs more money.
HP/Compaq desktops/laptops are flimsy pieces of plastic.
If you want a desktop system that is solid, I will build you one. We can go to Fry's together and buy everything you need.
If you want to buy a laptop, get an IBM new or refurbished.
For digital cameras, get a Fuji or Canon.
Now would an admin please let me put up my avatar, its an ueb0r geeking one!
